Situated on its own private island on Lake Temenggor, Belum Eco Resort makes its 130 million year old rainforest surroundings affordable for backpackers!

Our dorms with attached toilets/showers both have large balconies so you can wake up and enjoy the amazing lake & forest views where wild elephants and tigers still roam free! We also have private chalets & boathouse accommodation available.

Belum Eco Resort is situated on its own island in the middle of Lake Temenggor, surrounded by the tranquil beauty of the 130 million year old rainforest. The Belum Temenggor Forest Reserve is among the few remaining pockets of preserved rainforest in Peninsula Malaysia, covering over 300,000 hectares and home to a vast population of animals and plants. 14 of the world´s most threatened mammals such as the Malaysian Tiger, Asiatic elephant, Sunbears, Tapirs, white-handed gibbon and the Sumatran Rhinoceros still roam freely in this natural habitat alongside 10 species of hornbills and 3 species of the worlds largest flower, the Rafflesia.

The resort itself offers guests various accommodation options, with the possibility to stay in two dormitories, both with attached toilets and showers and balconies overlooking the lake and rainforest. There are also private chalets for 2/3 people with balconies which are built in the style of the local Asli tribes, in keeping with their natural surroundings and also boathouse accommodation.

The open restaurant, overlooking the lake and rainforest offers both western and local cuisine. The lounge room also offers guests great views over the lake and forest and is a perfect place to sit and relax, with a projector and screen for films or karaoke and also an area with board games.

Guests have various activities to choose from including swimming, kayaking and sailing at the island itself or trips out to visit the Rainforest Watchtower, waterfalls, Rafflesia flower, hydro-dam, salt-licks, local Asli tribe village, jungle treks and birdwatching (Belum is known to have 10 species of Hornbill).

Accommodation Information

The 12 A-type private chalets have been built using local materials and an eco design to ensure they have minimum impact on the island eco-system. The private chalets have either double or twin beds or tatami floor mattresses and can accommodate 2 people (additional bed available for 50MYR). All chalets have private shower room with hot water, washbasin, ceiling fan and balcony overlooking the lake. Communal toilet block is shared between chalets.

We have 2 dormitories accommodating 10 or 8 people with bunk beds and tatami floor mattresses. Both dorms have attached toilets and showers with hot water, ceiling fans and balconies overlooking the lake.

The boathouse accommodation has two double bedrooms with living space (4 additional beds can be put in this room, +50MYR per bed) and balcony area overlooking the lake. Ceiling fans in each room. Boathouse has shared toilet and shower facilities.

Location Information

Belum Eco Resort is located in the state of Perak on its own island on Temenggor Lake, surrounded by the Belum-Temenggor Rainforest and close to the world famous Royal Belum National Park.

We offer free boat pick up from the Pulau Banding public jetty (last pick up is at 5pm). Pulau Banding (or Banding Island) is situated between Penang and Kota Bharu on the East to West Highway, approx 40km from the town of Gerik, making it easily accessible by bus or car. Free parking is available at the public jetty.

The nearest airport to Belum Eco Resort is Penang International Airport, approximately 213km away. Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and the Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) are approximately 372km away.

Buses between Penang and Kota Bharu will travel along the East to West highway, passing the Pulau Banding public jetty. You will need to remember to inform the bus driver to drop you off at the public jetty!
