Disliked: bad slippers, slippery , Not into shared shower troom but was private ones too

Liked: That it was traditional, but it felt like it needed some sprucing up, it felt a little flat. The women were nice and hospitable, but the guy was a less welcoming.

Disliked: That when I went to have a bath in the morning it was cold...

Liked: the helpful lady at the front desk was amazing! its not often they would have to deal with some one trying to find lots of obscure house addresses for architecture! very helpful! the girl from Kagoshima was wonderful as well :)

Disliked: bit of a shame to have heating machinery and tv`s in the rooms...but i guess most westerners probably demand this...so not really a loss for the majority...

Liked: We booked a double room and it was HUGE!!!. Our room was the size of 11 tatami mats with a sun room over looking the garden. I also loved the japanese style bathroom.

Disliked: Sleeping on the floor was a little tough

Liked: Apart from the early check-out time (10am), I loved this place. My room was spacious and full of character - as was the whole ryokan. Highly recommended if you're looking for an authentically Japanese place to stay.

Liked: This is an old style ryokan in an older building. My wife thinks that some people may not like the fact that the building is old, but I think it has a lot of character. My Japanese friend says that it is hard to find this type of ryokan in Japan anymore.

Liked: The Kashima Honkan is a charming guesthouse with a rustic, authentic feel in a city without too much charm on offer. Well, that's a bit harsh - we really enjoyed Fukuoka and did some excellent eating and carousing there this past long weekend. But it's no Kyoto, so this property is a good place to soak up some old-school Japanese atmosphere. The owner and other clerks were all pleasant enough, but they couldn't very well chat with us given our pathetic-non-command of Japanese. The rooms are extremely spacious, and sleeping traditional-style isn't tough on the foreigner back here as it has been at some other places I've stayed: the floor seemed extra-soft. The bathrooms, though not en-suite, were convenient and there was never a wait for the toilet or showers. While the place is a bit worn and ramshackle, if you're at all like me, you'll find this to be a mark in its favor rather than a detriment. The location, very near Gion subway station, is very convenient though not right in the city center. The neighborhood is brimming with cute bars and restaurants, and downtown is only about a 15-minute walk.

Liked: It's a nice little traditional place well situated and about a 4 minute walk to Canal City. The staff are friendly and the rooms are very nice. Perfect if you want to stay in a traditional ryokan.

Liked: There were 5 in our group...3 in one room and 2 in the neighboring room. The building is antiquated but that is the charm of selecting this facility. The desk staff is very helpful and speak enough English to be helpful. The Japanese meals offered are good, but they do not understand the Western breakfast. It is somewhat comical. I would definitely return to this hostel and will recommend it for it's authentic traditional value to others.The location is central and perfect to explore Fukuoka. We took the City Tour bus (the Green Bus) and it started out fine, but turned out to be a hastle when we got off and wanted to catch the next one to continue the tour.

Liked: Its a really goud place to stay in if you want to try the japaneese style of living. But I think it was enough with to nights, because it was qutie expensive compard to a dorm in a hostel. Liked: Bargain. Very cheap Ryokan, but the rooms are a lot bigger than the ones you get in Kyoto for example. Also you can come home any time. When the door is closed at night they have a bell you can ring to get in. The location is perfect in the center an very easy to reach, it's directly at a subway line with passes the train station and the airport.No big space to sit down with other travelers, so if you are traveling alone and want to meet other backpackers I would recomend a Hostel, because here it was very quiet. (I really liked that after having stayed in various Backpackerhostels, to sleep well)
