Buried under a blanket of ash and lapillus high about 6 meters, the ancient city of Pompeii, destroyed up by the 79 AD, was again in the light thanks to the campaign of excavations undertaken by the will of Charles of Bourbon, King of the Two Sicilies, in 1748. The archaeological site occupies an area of 44 hectares and is characterized by a remarkable state of preservation of buildings. It is without doubt one of the most popular sites visited in the world, with its perfectly paved roads, houses and villas, temples, the Forum, theatres e the unmistakable profile of Mount Vesuvius on the horizon.
Trecase has a very ancient origin. It was called “Pagus Augustus Felix Suburbanus" by Roman people. In 79 A.C. it was buried under the ash and rubble of Mount Vesuvius. In 1200 Federico II of Svevia used this spot as a royal hunting reserve called "Sylva Mala". In 1500 the first rural houses of Trecase were built, this name is because People had to pay taxes to three female monasteries, St. Chiara, St. Maria Egiziaca e St. Maria Maddalena. Is set at the foot of Vesuvius.
Vesuvius is 1281 meters high and is located slightly inside the coast of the Gulf of Naples.
The volcano is a particularly interesting for its history and the frequency of its eruptions.
Vesuvius is a glance of unusual beauty in view of the gulf, especially if seen from the sea with the city in the background. Not as stereotypical, but much more important is that the primacy Vesuvius holds worldwide: it is the first volcano that has been studied systematically.
From 29 October 2005, the Vesuvius is an open-air museum because his turns hosting 10 gigantic sculptures, and in front of Capri and Ischia Islands, so that it has a very breathtaking view of the Gulf of Naples.
