Liked: Very friendly staff, big and realy clean room with balcony. Only 5 min walking distance to the beach.

Liked: Great location in the heart of gorgeous Kovalam beach area - 5 mins walk from the beach itself and a huge variety of restaurants, shops etc. Shirley and Sanbeth were extremely welcoming and really helpful with advice when I emailed them before we arrived (helping us to arrange trains, and offering Kerala tours that seemed to be excellent value for money compared with lots of others I looked at - plus they will put together a bespoke itinerary for you). Super cheap room - it was a bit pokey and a bit grubby and without AC it was pretty cosy - but as a base to enjoy Kovalam and as somewhere to slepp it certainly does the trick!

Disliked: Not sure if some of the more expensive rooms are in a different building - ours was basically the back room in the house opposite. Nothing wrong with it if like us, you're easy going and just looking for somewhere cheap to sleep - but if you're expecting mod cons and home comforts you might feel a bit out of your depth!

Liked: Shirley the owner is the nicest woman in the world - when i was sooooo sick on my first day in India and was alone and scared she stayed up all night with me and made sure i was ok, bringing me water and cooling my face with a wet towel! She can also organise tours and rickshaws with local people. The beach is only 15 seconds walk away. I felt very safe, there was always someone on watch at the hostel.

Disliked: When i was there the view from my balcony was of a rubbish tip but this may have changed.

Liked: Shirley's is just perfect! Right next to the beach, comfortable and very clean rooms and excellent value for money. Shirley and Sambath are both extremely friendly and helpful without being pushy and helped us organise so much stuff whilst we were there. We were getting married at the Leela hotel during our stay and Shirley helped us get so much organised, even though we had a wedding planner she was still a god send helping us get flowers and even got in touch with a local paper and news channel!! We had 30 people come over for it and between them they organised elephant trips, backwater cruises, cooking lessons and loads more! Awesome place, can't recommend it enough.

Disliked: Absolutely nothing!!

Liked: they help me to arrive there, because when I call them they gave me all the exact details and information. I liked the clean floor of the reception and stairs. I also liked the smile and the friendly mood of the smart lady, the owner. Nothing else.

Disliked: the dirtiness , the sence of having one's eye on when you come and go , the sesce that I was a prisoner because of the iron bars at the two windows and the nerrow space of the room.

Liked: Shirley and her son are absolutely brilliant and can't do enough to help you. They organised the local TV crew to come and film my friends wedding!!!! Anything you need, they'll sort and it's really cheap too.

Disliked: It's pretty basic but you don't spend your time in there so that doesn't matter. The water was hot and the bed was big and that's all I needed!

Liked: Perfect choice for our first Indian hotel. It was clean, safe, quiet and economical. The owner (Shirley!) and her son Sammbath were charming and accomodating. They helped us enormously and were perfect hosts. Excellent family-type atmosphere, steps away from the Lighthouse Beach but far enough to be quiet.. Great value..

Disliked: The view from our balcony was a littered vacant lot. No fault of the hotel, certainly, but that was the only minus in an otherwise perfect budget experience.

Liked: We had a great time at Shirley's Beach. The room was brilliant; clean, bright, comfortable. The balcony was great. The price of the room was incredibly cheap considering the quality. Above all, we were impressed by Shirley and her son Sambath. They treat every guest like their own family. Shirley is a warm person, and she was eager to help us in any way. Shirley and Sambath even arranged an excursion on a houseboat for us. They booked taxis and negotiated a price, and got a good deal for us. In short, Shirley and Sambath really go out of their way to take care of their guests. Overall i would highly recommend Shirley's Beach to anyone visiting Kovalam. It is easily the best accommodation we've stayed in during our 5 weeks in India. The service is top quality.

Disliked: We could not say a single bad thing about Shirley's beach.

Liked: Shirleys Beach is a hostel in the main tourist area. You walk to the lighthouse beach in 1 minute. Shirley and her Team are friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our stay.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike at Shirleys beach.

Liked: From the moment we walked through the door, both Shirley and Sambath were the most welcoming and friendliest people we'd met on our trip through India so far. They couldn't do enough for us and were lovely people to chat to.Our room was spotless and cleaned everyday. Hostel was safe and quiet but still right near the beach and beachfront restaurants. Can't say enough of the hospitality we received here. Lovely, kind, warm people with hearts of gold. Highly recommended.

Liked: Shirley & her son were great hosts. They were happy to arrange anything we needed. The location was brilliant - right by the beach & near all the restaurants. The room was very clean when we arrived & was cleaned regularly with clean linen & towels provided. We would thoroughly recommend staying here.
