Overview
The Posada de Santiago is nestled at the base of two volcanoes that cradle the indigenous Tzutujil village of Santiago Atitlan. Located on the Southern bay of majestic Lake Atitlan, Santiago provides the perfect base from which to experience Guatemala's natural beauty and colorful Mayan culture.
Santiago Atitlan is the home of the Tzutujil Mayans, the last people to give in to the Spanish Conquistadores. They continue to be a proud, artistic and independent people. Visitors to Santiago have the opportunity to witness the survival of Mayan traditions preserved through history in the largest indegenous city in Central America.
Lake Atitlan--enchanting, surrounded by three volcanoes, 1100 feet deep, occupied by three language Mayan groups--there is no place like it. I have lived here for nearly two decades and there has not been a day when I failed to notice the beauty surrounding us.
Posada Rooms
Although the Posada is best known for its stone bungalow cottages, a number of rooms are also available to the budget traveller. Casa Orchidea, a new two-story building, has a number of charming doubles with private bath, while Casa Olga has four double rooms with a shared bath and common space.
Our restaurant maintains the highest standards: we make all of our own stocks, sauces, breads, pastries and ice cream; chicken, and turkey are wood-smoked on-premise. We grow, process, roast, and grind our own coffee, which is served freshly brewed, as espresso, cappuccino and lattes. A full bar and selection of fine wines are ready to complement any meal.

Groups
Our expansive facilities and years of experience have made the Posada a favorite stop of many group travel organizations.
We have been hosts to a wide variety of groups: film crews, students, church missions, medical volunteers, NGO's, art and yoga workshops and, of course, a few weddings.
We offer a full package for groups of twelve or more with three meals included each day. The plan can be completely tailored to your needs and tastes: the basic plan is geared toward working groups who are watching their budget and don't want to spend a lot of time at meals.
A new two-story building ideal for groups. Upstairs, it has a 1200 sq ft Salon and there are four moderately priced double rooms with baths downstairs. Casa Orquidea is available for meetings, workshops, banquets and celebrations. Coffee breaks, catering, and audio/visual equipment can be provided. We maintain a list of contact information for the finest musicians, artisans and knowledgeable speakers in the Atitlan area.
