Liked: It was clean and had the basics needed for overnight stay

Disliked: They were not aware of the booking when I arrived. You did not inform them. There is no free airport shuttle as advertised. Insisted on American dollars instead of Guatemalan money. I was the only one there.

Liked: They let me drop my backpack and laptop there at 7 am and leave it until I came at 3:00 pm to check in without charge. It is in a great location near the airport. I walked to the airport in exactly 55 minutes, no problem even with my backpack and 2 bags. Shuttle service would have cost $6 USD. Another reviewer said the airport was within walking distance and they were right. It was a safe pleasant walk but I would have preferred a free ride.

Disliked: Mostly disliked the two big cockroaches that crawled under my door. I killed them both but slept with the light on to discourage more from coming. What I thought was going to be free airport transport was 60Q so I walked to the airport. That was not clear in the booking info. There was a nice breakfast area with a serving area that made me think I was going to get a good breakfast. Instead I got nothing, but did get to watch the owner eat a decent breakfast for himself. They do take credit cards but add 3.5% or so onto the total bill so you pay the credit card fee for them. I know this is a common practice and I was glad they told me before I used my card. I decided to pay cash when I found that out. For the money I could have stayed at the hostel where I was the night before, taken the Transmetro to the stop Zone 9 at 8 Calle and walked from there and saved money and had a breakfast.

Liked: From the moment we arrrived we felt so very welcome. What may lack in hotel services and facilities, certainly are made up for the hospitality Grace will offer you. She could not have been more helpful during our stay. And you must see her one legged parrot!

Disliked: You need a cab to get about until you get to know the area.

Liked: Convenient lokated, safe.

Disliked: Very noisy place (as airport is close aircraft quite often, not only during day time); on saturdays a band playing in the neigbourhood (poor performance); prices were different from advertisement in internet

Liked: The owner/manager "Grace" could not have been nicer. Bless her heart, she is running this place practically alone and did her best. Sweet woman, grandmother type. Good Wifi and TV connections.

Disliked: Place hasn't been updated since early 70's. Common areas, very old and dusty looking not welcoming. Poor water pressure and temperature, made for tepid showers. Gardens a mess. Our standards are low (retirees traveling for a year) and this place barely met our modest requirements.

Liked: The owner is very kind and helpful. The hotel is quiet and in the safest part of Guatemala City. Plus the wifi connection is excellent!

Disliked: Slightly overpriced for what you get, but what you get isn't bad at all, so it's fine.

Liked: The hostel staff were exceedingly friendly and helpful. Our night bus arrived at 6am on a Sunday morning, and they were there to open the doors. Very helpful with buses, restaurants, and airport transfers. And they have a one-footed parrot named Pepe.

Disliked: The property is quiet, which is only a problem if you're hoping to meet other travelers.

Liked: Staff was very friendly, with a family type atmosphere. They spoke pretty good english also.

Disliked: Just a warning, it is by a restaurant/bar that has live music every night. The band is pretty loud, but is done around 11-12 midnight during the week, and 1am on weekends. It didn't bother me much, because I wasn't trying to go to bed before they finished. But others will not get any sleep if they try to go to bed before the set is over.

Liked: I was very nourvous for my late arrival to GUA at 22:00, but the friendly Ericka and Sen~ora picked my up. So the booking from HostelBookers.com does not tell them detailed arrival information for pickup, that it's bettter to confirm by e-mail too. One of the advantages of this hotel is the location; centrally located in newtown, and nearby is the station SEIS26 of "Transmetro" ( http://transmetro.muniguate.com/index.php/e ) which is secure and convenient city transport.

Disliked: A little run down, but it's enough for budget travellers. One caution, do not touch any metal part before turning off the electricity of the shower. Otherwise it's OK and of good value I think.

Liked: I have heard so many bad things about Guatemala City and I only stayed there during the evening and night, so I didn't go out. But the place is located in Zona Viva and the staff was very helpful and made it all a lot easier. They picked me up for a small price and drove me to the airport to pickup another person - the airport pickup is included in the price, but they charge a bit for transport to other destinations. When I first saw the hostel from outside, I was a bit disappointed and though it would be a bad place to stay, but it was a lot different inside and the staff was so friendly.I don't know if it's a fun place to meet people, because I don't think there were others when we went.I absolutely recommend this place!

Disliked: Sandra Anne left no negative feedback.
