About Waisalima Beach Resort and Dive Centre
This is an intimate, eco friendly and exquisitely remote retreat, located on the undeveloped eastern tip of Kadavu Island adjacent to the Naiqoro Passage and overlooking the Great Astrolabe Reef. When diving or indeed snorkeling it becomes apparent that this barrier reef, the third largest living organism on Earth, is also one of the world’s richest marine ecosystems.
Waisalima Beach Resort is responsible for the creation and preservation of the marine reserve at Naiqoro Passage on the Great Astrolabe Reef. Located just minutes by boat from Waisalima Beach, this gateway between the South Pacific Ocean and Kadavu is one of the most important breeding ground for many types of fish species, making it one of the best places on Kadavu for diving. This means that the local community have a sustainable source of breeding fish that migrate to restock their traditional fishing grounds. This will benefit both them and their descendents. Enjoy swimming along side turtles, sharks of various species (and sizes!), giant humphead wrasse and schools of snapper whilst enjoying myriad corals.
Viti Water Sports, a PADI operation of long standing repute manages the Waisalima Dive Centre. Part of your diving fees goes directly to the local villages to help them police their marine reserve at Naiqoro Pass. The Viti Water Sports dive team run scuba courses from Discover Scuba right through to Dive Master in their fantastic Centre. They have well maintained equipment for hire, including wetsuits, Sherwood and Oceanic brand BCDs and Regulators, all to ensure you enjoy a safe and wonderful scuba experience while diving the Great Astrolabe Reef.
We have a range of contemporary Fijian bures right on the beach. With something suitable for all types of travelers, there are deluxe bures with ensuite facilities, traditional or standard bures, the social dormitory, or sites to pitch a tent and get back to nature. We have facilities for guests to recharge electronic equipment, and Satellite solar powered broadband internet is available for guest use. All the bures are constructed (apart from the roofs) from sustainable materials, harvested locally, and have 24 hour solar powered lighting (sol permitting!) installed to help reduce generator usage and therefore our carbon footprint.
The resort hosts an abundance of activities and eco adventures including hiking trips, village trips, cultural events, fishing, waterfall trips, kayaking, the best snorkeling in Fiji, and world class scuba diving. All are designed to maximize your enjoyment, experiences whilst minimizing your footprint on the local environment.
To get to Kadavu you have the option to fly from either Nadi or Suva. Pacific Sun flights depart Nadi everyday around midday. The flight from Suva is through Air Fiji, and leaves at a similar time. Once you arrive at Vunisea airstrip, one of our friendly Boatmen will meet you for your 1½ hour scenic transfer along the exotic Kadavu coast.
Alternately, for a more cultural journey to Kadavu, the Sinu-i-wasa ferry leaves Suva on Tuesday nights, arriving in Kavala Bay early Wednesday afternoons. The trip will leave you gasping at the organised chaos of the loading and unloading of supplies. Our Boatman will retrieve you from the dock and escort you on the 15 minute boat trip to the relaxed comfort of the resort and your bure.
Enjoy a delightful blend of international cuisine and traditional Fijian banquets expertly prepared by local chefs. Produce is either grown on site or supplied locally. There is an endless supply of fresh fish while crabs and lobster are seasonal. Traditional Lovo feasts (cooked in the ground) are lovingly prepared for your pleasure by the locals, with music, dancing, and of course, kava to party the night away.
