Liked: The day staff Geordies were so friendly and helpful. We had to check out at 10am, but weren't getting picked up until 4pm, so we left our bags behind the counter and the staff gave us directions to places to visit. The location is so central that everything is on your doorstep. Perfect for saving on transport.
Disliked: Well, where do I start? You pull up to the hostel and you would be forgiven for thinking that you'd got the wrong place as there's no sign to say it's a hostel at all - it just looks like a takeaway. The night staff were rude and unhelpful and could not have been more indifferent to our arrival. We were nothing but polite to them, but they couldn't even crack a smile. The room was fine - what you expect from a hostel but the sheets were not clean. Some were stained and had hairs on them. There were stains on the walls too and dirty handprints everywhere. There wasn't a bin for the room - just a bin bag. The shower needed ripping out as the shower doors were hanging off and letting all the water out onto the floor and there were holes in the shower wall. Granted that hostels are noisy, but our neighbours took the absolute mick. Beware that because you're on the party street, your neighbours are going to climb in blind drunk at 3am and everyone will know. No one told us that you have to pay an extra £20 deposit on check in, which you do get back, but it was another annoyance. To be honest, it was pretty awful but you just get on with it. Wouldn't stay there again.

Liked: Great stay, better than expected. Some very harsh reviews about the hostel. I found it to be clean, accessible and comfortable. Very good location and very friendly and helpful staff.
Disliked: Only slight downside was the lack of power in the shower but this was nothig major.
