Liked: We arrived at the hotel after a 12 hour flight and were treated with indifference. The room we had was right next to the lift shaft and accross the corridor from the breakfast room. We had a cold shower in the smallest bathroom ever and were woken at 6am by the crashing of breakfast crockery.
Disliked: Tiny room, tiny ensuite, cold shower and noisy position of room

Liked: It was very close to kings cross train station. You had to leave your key at the front desk so you didn't have to worry about losing it whilst being in london.
Disliked: We had to wait for breakfast because there wasn't enought room. It was very small and very hot in the breakfast room. When we got up at about 8 o'clock, twice, there wasn't any warm water left.

Liked: Comfortable bed
Disliked: Poor security. Had to leave key with reception every time you went out. No one asked for name when asking for the key back, just room number Anyone could access the luggage room.

Liked: It was clean and served its function as somewhere to sleep
Disliked: I wanted to cancel the booking on a Thursday for a stay on Saturday night, and thought this would be fine because I had been told I had to cancel at least 2 days in advance to get a refund. However I was told I should have called on Wednesday at the latest to avoid being charged the full amount. On arrival, we found that we had a room on the side of the building by the road, even though I had called earlier in the week to request a quieter room at the back of the building. The walls in the room were partition walls and you could clearly hear people's conversations in the room next door.

Liked: Location excellent for a stay in london. It was easy to walk to where we wanted to go.
Disliked: We booked two rooms. The room for two was fine. Disappointingly, having judged the room for three to have three beds according to the picture on your website, it had only two - a double bed and a single bed. Might not have booked if we had known this.

Liked: The location is excellent for access to central London, King's X, Bloomsbury areas and really good value for money. The service and staff is relatively friendly and efficient (Polish hospitality). If planning to stay more than 1, 2 nights, ask for a room out to the back, as Swinton Street is rather noisy. If you plan to use the wireless LAN, make sure you have signal in your room, o'wise ask for a room change.

Liked: I had problems with this hotel from the word go. When I initially made the reservation, instead of taking 10% deposit of the total amount (a standard procedure on hostelbookers.com) the hotel tried to debit the entire total amount from my account (NOT a mentioned procedure on the hotel description or payment page) the payment was declined- so they simply cancelled my booking, without informing me. It wasn't until a week or so later when I emailed the hotel regarding a luggage storage enquiry, they informed me my reservation had been cancelled as they weren't able to take payment. Luckily I was able to make the reservation again, but they were very difficult and would not make the reservation over the phone, they asked me to email them with my request and my bank details, at first which I refused because of the security implications, but they informed me I would not be able to make the reservation if I did not. So I went ahead and emailed them with the request, to which it took three more prompting phone calls and reminders for them to make the booking, over all it took nearly two more days for them to make reservation. When I arrived at the hotel, I went to drop my luggage off in their 'secure' luggage room as I was not able to check-in until 2pm. When I walked into the reception area, I was greeted by two people asleep on the waiting area sofa, which turned out not to be staff or guests, so I can only presume they were maybe friends of staff or at worst, homeless people making use of the open door. Finally, a member of staff did show me to the luggage room, which was opposite the sofa where these people were sleeping, of which was a sign, 'Luggage left at owners risk'. Not very reassuring.Once the time came to check-in, we were given our room key, room 4, downstairs. Firstly we were greeted by a hall way and stair case that had a mixed scent of soiling and the over use of cleaning products to cover it up. Once we reached our room, we were met by a VERY small room with a double bed crammed in with only room for one person to walk down the side of it at a time. The 'window' was actually damaged and covered by a metal grill and bars, and the view was a brick wall alley way full up with damaged furniture and rubbish bags. We were out for most of the day, so the room wasn't that much of an issue. But when we returned for the evening, our room was so close to the road that when any sort of van or lorry went past, the bed and furniture vibrated with the noise, and when we actually got into bed, the bed was on a slant. We finally managed to get to sleep, but at 3am our room phone began to ring with a member of staff telling me my taxi was here. I informed the staff member that I had not booked a taxi and that I was asleep. And would you believe it, the staff member actually began to argue with me, asking me what to tell the waiting taxi driver!? We did not bother with the breakfast in the morning, with the night we had had and the scent of the hallway, eating in the place was the last thing we wanted to do.I have used hostelbookers.com several times when travelling abroad and they have been superb. The customer service in England as well as the correspondence to hostels and hotels abroad has never disappointed me.But overall, my stay with the Arriva hotel was simply awful. I cannot believe that with the hotel being in England, London no less, with hostelbookers.com headquarters not being too far away from the hotel itself, hostelbookers can advertise such a dire dysfunctional property.
