"The host, Simon (and his family) were extremely helpful and friendly. My family and I got on very well with the hosts and were able to use a western toilet in a spare room (the triple room had an Asian squat toilet).…"Read all Beautiful Hutong reviews

About Beautiful Hutong
Beautiful Hutong is situated on the western edge of ‘Mushanzha’, a quaint village littered with traditional yellow brick farmhouses and winding alleyways. The location is ideal – stunning, tranquil, yet a 10 minute bicycle ride from the tourist hubbub of central Yangshuo.
Our focus at Beautiful Hutong is not profit. As a family owned and managed guesthouse, our primary goal is to offer a sense of the community that existed in the traditional courtyard neighbourhoods – ‘Hutongs’ – that throughout history have played a central role in Chinese society. Travellers from all different cultures and backgrounds are invited to join us in these peaceful and very special surroundings.
While you are staying with us:
Learn about tea culture (and drink tea!) with Simon, Beautiful Hutong’s friendly owner.
Understand how society in the Hutong functioned, the principles of Feng Shui, and the all-important concept of ‘face’.
Try one of our tours. One familiar and less delightful aspect of modern China is the tendency to copy whoever or whatever is successful. Unfortunately, this has bred a depressing uniformity in the tours on offer around Yangshuo. We have used our local knowledge to design unique tours that enable our guests to take in some breathtaking scenery, experience real Chinese life, and avoid the crowds.
Learn a little Mandarin (survival Chinese!)
Enjoy a calligraphy lesson or a traditional Chinese massage.
Volunteer for an afternoon in a school in one of the minority villages.
Choose from a range of traditional Chinese home cooked dishes with vegetables from our garden (and eggs from our hens!)
Enjoy the famous ‘Liu Sanjie’ light show for free and learn many other local secrets.
Get assistance with bus tickets, train tickets, and visas.
And much more!
Our delightful rooms are designed using natural materials, and all feature en suite bathroom, air conditioning, bed linen, towel, kettle/cups, and television.
Deluxe - These larger rooms open onto our beautiful courtyard, and feature balcony/private seating area facing the imposing Dragon Gate Mountain.
Superior - These rooms enjoy views of the dramatic karsts lining the Li River.
Garden View - These rooms open onto our beautiful courtyard. Many rooms are larger and feature balcony/private seating area with views of the courtyard.
Pictures all represent views from the guesthouse.
Beautiful Hutong is situated a five minute drive (10 minutes by bicycle) to the east of central Yangshuo on the western edge of the village of Mushanzha. A five minute stroll to a fabulous stretch of the Li River.
