Liked: Hotel Alcazar is a boutique hotel at hostel prices. The owners are very friendly and will give good advice on restaurants and things to do. They reserved bus tickets for us to Punta Arenas and Ushuaia. The hotel is very clean, freshly painted rooms, nice wooden floors, comfortable beds, down comforters, good lighting, a public computer, circulating hot water heaters, good water pressure with plenty of water. The cheese, meat, and yogurt were a good addtion to the usual Chilean breakfast fare.

Disliked: When looking for budget accomodations, one can't expect The Ritz. The only negatives are that it is a little walk from the Plaza Mayor and no views from the rooms that we had. I would gladly trade these small negatives for all of the positives about this cozy, little hotel!

Liked: I liked the just-outside-of-downtown location of this place. The atmosphere was nice and tranquil, and it was nice to be out of the buzz of the downtown area, but at the same time just a 10-minute walk to restaurants/shops/everything. The super-friendly staff is definitely the best part--they picked us up and dropped us off at the bus station, and helped us with a tour to Torres del Paine from their travel agency. The homemade bread was fantastic on the cold patagonian morning, and the fresh plum jam was amazing! The rooms were clean and comfortable, but the friendly staff really make this place special. Definitely a great value.
