Liked: Great location and excellent facilities. Good food in the bar at very reasonable prices. Reception staff were very helpful

Disliked: The bar was lacking character and the staff were not very helpful. The key card system, although is good for security gets annoying when you have to use your key to get to the bathroom

Liked: The hostel is in a pretty good location with access to the city, trams, the train station and some of the funky places to eat and shop on Lygon and Brunswick Streets.

Disliked: The airconditioning system worked well but was too loud. Not really a huge issue as we just stayed a couple of nights, but it could be annoying after a while. Also, there was no free wi-fi.

Liked: The very friendly staff as soon as you arrive, 24hour reception, the large clean kitchen and the great location.

Disliked: the bathrooms could have been cleaner.

Liked: Staff was friendly, willing to help out. The attached bar was quite nice, I recommend attending happy hour.

Disliked: Shared bathrooms had a touchy hot water supply, no drinking in the rooms, only at the bar.

Liked: It is really clean! And the location is really good. Not to busy but still right in the centre. A also liked that you have your own plug and light!

Disliked: There is not a lot of atmosphere and you don't get any information about the area or about Melbourne. Not even a map...

Liked: There's a very modern feel about Space Hotel. It's close to some fantastic places to eat and is only a short walk to the very centre of Melbourne CBD. Each bed has a lockable cupboard next to it, though the atmosphere is so friendly you don't really feel a need to do so. Space Hotel also offers a large variety of services available to their guests. The rooms are also amazingly quiet.

Disliked: The mattresses are quite solid which can be a bit uncomfortable.

Liked: This was the best hostel I have ever stayed in. I especially like the movie room and gym as well as the oversized beds and ovens in the kitchen.

Liked: The newly refurbished room we were in was excellent. We really appreciated the TV in our room. It was centrally located within Melbourne and within an easy walk to just everything you could want.. Having tables and chairs plus sun loungers on the outside decking was wonderful. This is a particularly good hostel for more mature travellers because sleeping areas are quiet, beds very comfortable and tea/coffee making facilties on each floor are a real bonus.

Disliked: We were really sad that the cleaning staff appeared not to have had sound training and supervision. We could see that, although the place has been very well and expensively refurbished, there are already little spots in bathrooms and bedrooms where cleaning is regularly missed (eg corners of the floor). If not attended to this will lead to a sad state of affairs.

Liked: Very close to the city, easy to walk to major attractions, and trams. Friendly and helpful staff.

Disliked: Beds in rooms were a little close, and could have been coffee and tea facilities in room, instead of having to walk down the hall to get a glass of water or get hot.

Liked: It has a very fun and welcoming environment. Its a very comfortable place to stay as there are many different cultures and walks of life.

Disliked: The toilets/bathrooms need an extra drain as they can fill with water pretty quick after one or two people have had a shower.

Liked: this is my 4th hostel in Melbourne moved from St Kilda to City and it is by far the best matress and pillow than any other hostel PERIOD!

Disliked: Not much of a social vibe compared to other hostels and internet is the highest compared to any other hostel but the jaccuzzi, gym, movie theatre, showers, matress and pillow make up for it.

Liked: The whole building is very clean and the kitchen area was very large with sufficient storage facilities and fridge space available. The bathrooms were of a high standard also. Lockers in the rooms were large and had power points inside so that valuables could be charged and left securely locked inside. Bagage storage was also good because check in time was at 2pm only unless the room was readily available. Movie room was a bonus as was the gym so you get great value for money.

Disliked: Gym was too small and the games room was out of order throughout stay. I was in a room where outside was a lane which housed the large bins and they were very noisy in the mornings, but other than that everything was great.

Liked: Great facilities, clean, spacious, lots of extras. Good location as well, short walk to shopping, groceries, bars, and restaurants. Kitchen is great, plenty of storage, movie room and gym are nice touches (the gym would be 100x better with a set of dumbells, hint hint). Very spacious lockers, power ports next to the beds, all in all very comfortable.

Disliked: Lacks energy and atmosphere, common areas are dispersed (gym, kitchen, game room, lounge, are all on different floors and remain empty most of the time) which makes things difficult; the situation could be remedied but the staff doesn't seem to put much effort into the social aspect. It feels much more like a hotel than a hostel. Basically zero socialising, definitely the quietest, least social hostel I've ever been too, there are like 300 rooms, where is everyone? New Years Eve was disapointing, we went up to the roof where there was supposed to be a hostel event, they were selling champagne from a folding table, there was no music, and the hot tub was cold, the few people that were there left very quickly to be somewhere more interesting when midnight rolled around. In the end this place has a ton of potential, the facilities are nearly perfect but they really need to put effort into organizing events, no matter how simple (and that doesn't mean more bar specials). Also, the staff never told me, but according to a few long term residents you aren't allowed to bring alcohol into the building (makes sense since they want the bar downstairs to get business) but it also explains why basically every night I heard parties going on behind closed dorm rooms, banning alcohol isn't going to drive people to the bar, just to drink their own stash in private. To sum up, come here for a comfortable place to stay close to the city, but if your primary goal is to meet other travelers and socialize I would recomend exploring other options.
