Liked: Friendly staff, cafe and lounge area, bar, very social

Disliked: A little bit far away from center of the city but it's super close to the Vic Market which makes up for it

Liked: The property is in a pretty good location, easy to get around the CBD. Free wi-fi was useful but it only worked in the downstairs area, not in the rooms. the beds were pretty comfortable.

Disliked: The rooms were appalling. Tiny and cramped with nowhere to store your bags so the floor was just full of bags which I tripped overe every time I came in the room in the dark when people were asleep. There are no lockers to store your valuables so you have to keep them on you all the time. I'm glad I wasn't on a top bunk as there were no ladders to get up there. I wouldn't stay here again due to the poor quality of the rooms. Also, the life kept breaking which is fine for me as I don't mind taking the stairs, but the stairs go up to level 2 and then disappear - from asking people I was lead to the stairs through a maze of corridoors on level 2 - not signposted.

Liked: The cafe food is amazing. Chef is excellent. Jobshop and travelshop are good, with friendly staff.

Disliked: Kitchen lacks space and facilities. Bathrooms are grimey and showers are bad but im told they are to be improved soon.

Liked: Location is good. Rates are cheap.

Disliked: When I checked in, none of the beds were clean and ready. I went around the city and came back in late at night, found 2 empty (not clean) bed so I chose one and slept. Then someone came in and kicked me out as it was his bed (how was I suppose to know?). So I moved to the other bed. The next day, I complained to the cleaner then she cleaned my bed. So I left again to the city. When I went back, someone else took my bed cause it was the only one clean. That's it, I decided to rent a double room instead. So I moved to the 3rd floor. Guess what, toilets and showers are renovated on this floor. Really inconvenient to have to go to other floors to use the toilets. Not to mention that there is only one working lift (long queue btw). This place is a joke.

Liked: Right in the centre of Melbourne, everything is pretty much walking distance. You can get an all day rider (on the trams) for $7.60. Meals in the cafe are definitely value for money, you get a mountain of food on a plate! Laundry service is pretty good, it's nice to have your clothes tumble dried.

Disliked: The free wifi is only available on the ground floor where reception is, pretty poor and tends to cut out. Using their own comps for internet is way too expensive, $3 for 1/2/ hour. There is only one lift for this huge hostel and it is old and slow, unless you want to be waiting around for ages, take the stairs. Our room stank of urine and had damp stains all the down one of the walls. Breakfast is only 7-9am, which is great if you're working otherwise not worth waking up for. Beware of the showers, they sometimes change temperature of their own accord. We got scolded a few times, but otherwise okay!

Liked: The beds are so comfortable, and the sheets clean! The rooms were spacious (I was in a 4 bedder). The staff were very friendly and was helpful in directing us where to go. Location is pretty good with several shops around the place (convenience shops, grocery store, and the Queen Vic Markets - great for a morning breakfast stroll!). However, it's about 15 minutes of a walk to the central (Flinders Stn etc), or a short tram ride up. Close to the nearest tram stop on Franklins/Elizabeth St, where you can catch 19,57,59 (19 and 59 to the middle of the city centre). Also: no lock out, and 24hr reception is awesome.

Disliked: THE LIFTS. If you're staying on lvl 3/4 - there is no other way to get up there other than using the lift. The lift is unbearably slow, unpredictable, and sometimes the buttons dont work when you press them! The rooms weren't clean from the previous stay (the beds were made though), and there were old magazines, soapbars, towels and someone's pair of boots in our room. The toilets were also far from our room (there are communal toilets on each floor and the floor is large).

Liked: they have restaurant for if you wernt feeling like cooking or going out.

Disliked: the lifts need to be updated. or clearer stair signs put in for people wanting 3rd floor and higher.

Disliked: Great facilities, helpful staff, harder to meet people being so big except for the smoking area. Shame the rooftop was closed for renovations

Liked: The staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms have very basic furniture but it is clean and silent. The kitchen is big and well-equipped and the rooftop is really nice!

Disliked: They changed the rule in the lockers saying you couldn't keep things overnight in them and they would physically remove the locks which was terribly inconvenient because if you want to keep a few things secure you can't!

Liked: The hostel organized little outings and knew that a lot of the travelers were young and so they made their outings free ... The staff also were very knowledgable with the surroundings of Melbourne and were very helpful with directions.

Disliked: There wasn't any long length mirrors :p

Liked: The location was fantastic! Free breakfast and wifi were great too, though the wifi was hit or miss unless you were in the lobby. The free walking tour and wine and cheese tasting were also great!

Disliked: The 8 bed dorm I was in was a little crowded and lockers in the room would have been nice.

Liked: I had a great time at this hostel, and really enjoyed the easter party downstairs in the bar. We had so much fun in the bar downstairs, playing pool & drinking & dancing. The 16 bed dorms were huge & we met lots of nice people. Girls shower area was really good & spacious. My friend & I had a great time here!!!

Disliked: Georgia left no negative feedback.

Liked: I liked the rooms- clean and big enough to fit all the bags in. Also the staff were very helpful and the tours you could book were very cheap compared to other places. Also free breakfast and free wifi is good (but you can only use free wifi on bottom floor).

Disliked: Difficult to meet people I found- many are long stays/ older than me. As a solo traveller it took a while to meet people. Also the bar was closed due to kids being in the hostel. This would have been an opportunity for me to meet people and they were advertising a bar night that day. I never got the opportunity to go to the bar but I heard they don't promote it well and its not that great.

Liked: Staff were helpful regarding sorting out a room for me as the room I was supposed to be in was inadvertantly full.

Disliked: It was a bit disorganised as I ended up in 2 different rooms during my stay neither of which was the one I was supposed to be in. It is a big place and lacks the atmosphere one finds in smaller hostels. The rat I saw running across the kitchen one morning would also put many people off.
