The West Usk Lighthouse is a cozy bed and breakfast near the City of Newport Gwent. Situated at the junction of the Severn and the Usk Estuaries, overlooking the Bristol Channel

The lighthouse was named as one of the 'Most Romantic in Britain' by Cosmopolitan magazine in 1998. It has been featured in most National Magazines and Newspapers, TV programmes and international newsprint.

The West Usk Lighthouse is a bed and breakfast establishment; it is quirky and comfortable rather than luxurious. It was designed as a first venture by Scottish architect, James Walker, who went on to build another 21 lighthouses.

All accommodation is within, rooms are wedge-shaped; the stone spiral staircase in the centre is found above a collecting well, now a wishing well! And the entrance hall is slate bedded and we have a Dalek at the bottom of the stairs!

We have just installed a 21ft Mongolian Yurt in the grounds; the Yurt is available for courses and meetings, B&B only at the moment. Yurt living is becoming very popular.

Please note our cancellation policy is different from hostelbookers. Once a booking is made, we reserve the right to charge 100% if cancelled within 48 hours, 70% within a month and 50% thereafter if we can't relet.

Accommodation Information

The authentic Mongolian yurt sleeps 4, in a double bed and 2 single beds. The yurt is 21ft across with a two seated sofa, table, chairs, TV set, radio and fridge.
There is a wood burning stove in the middle and also a gas heater, the yurt keeps the heat its very comfortable and different.
A yurt is a nomadic home, built with animal skin and made to withstand harsh weather. Toilet is next door and shower facilities by the lighthouse.

Exit Junction 28 off the M4
Take slip road to A48 Newport
At large roundabout take 3rd exit to B4239 Duffryn
At mini roundabout take first exit - drive for 2 miles
Turn left at sign (which is on the right next to small cattle bridge)
Into long, winding quite bumpy road marked THIS IS A PRIVATE ROAD.

Location Information

The lighthouse is situated about 10 miles from Cardiff, and 4 miles to Newport. There are lots to do and see in the area.
