The 2 nights I was there were both themed party nights in the bar on the 8th floor, the whole place was really lively from the always packed movie room, to the (overpriced) restaraunt. A great fun place and the tours booked through them even thought they cost a little more, everything was done top-notched and you will always know the others on the tour will be young and up for a party.

As long as you don't mind a very visible party atmosphere then the Drift has a strong claim to being the best hostel in Vietnam! The staff are excellent and help in anyway they can, for example if you leave your passport and money on a bus on the way back from Ha Long Bay, they made the phone calls and it was back at the hostel within 3 hours! The cafe serves good food but at a slightly higher price than the street vendors, but that is to be expected in most cafes/restaurants attached to accomodation. The Rooftop bar is lively and feels bigger than it is once the music picks up and people fill it up, beer is well priced. The dorms are clean, have big lockers (bring your own padlock), and the showers are hot and powerful. The only downside is that if you are looking for a quiet nights sleep and are on the same floor as the movie room (which is awesome by the way) then it can be loud.. The proximity and nature of the rooftop bar to higher floors can lead to noisy returns of roommates, but it is shared accomodation, so what else can be expected?! Don't be put off by that though, it is hardly a problem considering the outstanding facilities available at such an incredible price, we planned on staying for 2 nights, ended up doing a 3 day tour of Ha Long Bay and Cat Ba Island (must do!) and then went back to stay again before heading South.. If we had the time we would have gone to Sapa and then returned to the Drift for a few more nights before moving on.. It is awesome, don't let the party vibe put you off if you are looking for a quiet night, it can be had if you ask for the right floor (there are a few floors to this place so the lift/elevator is very welcome!)

This is the cleanest backpackers ever! Really great value for money. The beds are comfy & clean, this place is new so all good. Location is ok, it's quiet & tucked away. Staff really friendly & helpful, the free breakfast ensures that you always meet people. My only word of caution here would be the tours - as always shop around for price. Other than that, great value and a real welcome place to stay. Laundry is brilliant!

One of the best run hostel in SE Asia. Very clean, newly built, all rooms have A/C and free wifi. Staff helpful and friendly, the owner has a travel agency so services are offered in this area too with (seemingly) reasonable price. Very good value for my money.

WOW THIS PLACE HAS BLOWN ME AWAY IT ROCKS! Certainly this hostel was above and beyond my expectations..and for the price its amazing but there doing it and its all here...the best hostel I've ever stayed at for sure!!! The owners have thought of everything and all the people here can't rave enough about it as well. They were full and everyone accomodated, no stone left unturned here, not to mention the care and personal touches by the owners and staff to everyone in the hostel. So clean, huge beds,it has a great movie room, bar and the food in the cafe is amazing ..i did a sapa and halong bay tour with a group from the hostel and they were fabbo. I suggest you book guys as this hostel is filling up fast !

Brand new place with really friendly staff and I was totally impressed with the design of it.. a LOT of thought has gone into it. It's got an awesome bar on the top floor and a brilliant tv room with a giant plasma on the wall. I loved the fact the guys here treat you like a mate, and not just another customer, they organised a special Sapa trip for me and really cared about it. Don't think you'd get that many other places...!!! AWESOME hostel...the best so far!!

The place was pretty fantastic. The crew were unbelievably helpful. The faculties were outstanding but sometimes the internet was too slow or the movies on the giant tele froze up but just the fact that they offered there amenities! Free pool table was great. A little hard to find maybe but worth it. If one is outgoing he can find people with whom to have a good time.
