Liked: Hostel in good location for Hanoi sightseeing..close to the lake, restaurants,markets. Staff were really helpful. I booked two amazing tours to HALONG BAY and SAPA TREKKING. They offered very good tours!

Liked: Moon was very helpful with any information needed. Located right in the heart of the Old Quarter with other areas within walking distance. The rooms were perfect in terms of price/quality. Anytime there was an issue, they resolved as soon as they could. I would recommend this place for any pack packer on a fixed budget.

Disliked: Everything was fine. Lots of traffic outside the building but that is common anywhere in the old quarter.

Liked: The owner is a lovely woman who is very helpful and speaks good English. The room is good value. They are happy to look after you bags even if you are not booking tours with them. The hot water is VERY HOT! There are plenty of blankets on the beds. There was a spare bed in both the two rooms we stayed in. Tea and coffee are always offered in reception. Free breakfast of omeltte, bread and fruit whenever you get up, and even on the day we arrived back from Sapa even though we had just arrived. The location just on the endge of the old quater is very convinient. The place is very good value for money.

Disliked: It was a bit cold and damp when we stayed but I'm sure it's fine when it's not the middle of winter. There was a mistake with our airport transfer which ment it wasn't there but we were refunded the cost of our taxi when we arrived. The furniture has seen better days. Make sure they know in advance if you are going to arrive late/early as the door gets locked around 11 or 12 at night

Liked: This was a cozy place to stay and I highly recommend it. Rooms were more than sufficient. Breakfast was delicious, people were pleasant and spoke good english. People from all other stay at this hotel: Canadad, Sweden, Americans, Kiwi's, and even a few lovely Germans.

Disliked: Caron left no negative feedback.

Liked: The lady who runs the hostel, Moon, is a wonderful innkeeper. She's very honest and goes out of her way to ensure that guests are comfortable and well-taken care of. The location is very good and there are many amenities nearby. The fridge in the room keeps everything ice cold. Overall, very satisfied with everything. The description of the hostel on this site is very nearly 100%. For the price, you pay, it's an excellent bargain.

Disliked: The humidity might be an issue for some, especially those who are asthmatic. Although, that might be an issue with Vietnam as a whole, rather than just this hostel. However, a consequence of the humidity is that the beds do tend to feel damp and cold.

Liked: Moon the owner absolutely lovely. She checked us into our room at 6am (which was really nice and big with a bath tub, cozy bedsheets and small balcony looking over the street). She managed to get us train tickets to Sapa when the station had already told us they were fully booked. When we asked her if she knew a good place to eat she made us a lovely Vietnamese meal and wouldn't except any money for it! We will def be staying there for a few days when we get back from Sapa!

Disliked: Nothing really- I mean it's not a 5* hotel or anything but for $16 it's a little gem!'

Liked: The friendliness and helpfulness of the owner. She just knows everything and helps you with your trips. Good value trips at her hostel available.

Disliked: No heating in the room. With 11° Celsius quite cold in January... :-/

Liked: We arrived late and were shown to our room quickly and with little hassle. Staff seemed very friendly and helpful.

Disliked: Although the room was clean enough both beds in the room were very damp. Lying on the bed you could immediately feel the cold dampness of the sheet. Both I and my friend woke up in the morning feeling cold and wet.

Liked: Moon (the main receptionist) really made us feel like home, she always gives a helping hand and always has a friendly smile on her face. It's a really lovely spot, pretty central just minutes away from Hoan Kiem Lake. The Pho place next door is awesome as well!!! Go and check it out :)

Disliked: ...once in a while slow internet connection...

Liked: Hostess Moon is always there for you! it looks like see works day and night to make your stay as perfect as possible! every question we had she answered good and everytime we wanted to book something she gave us good advice and called organisations for us. few minutes walk from the lake, se offered us the upper floor so we didnt hear the traffic. perfect hostel! (and even had free breakfast at new years day :) )

Liked: 100% feedback from todd and vanessa! we really enjoyed our stay at kangaroo hostel. the family there were so so nice. cups of tea and fruit throughout the day, and they were so friendly and polite. the room was spotlessly cleaned every day too. we booked a tour to ha long bay through the hostel too, and once on board we found we had paid the least amount compared to everyone else! the staff here really make you feel at home :]

Disliked: nothing at all, it was perfect!

Liked: THE LADY WHO RUNS THIS PLACE IS CALLED MOON.YOU CAN TRUST HER WITH ANYTHING YOU BOOK.fOUND THIS PLACE GREAT FOR JUST ARRIVING IN VIETNAM WITH FREE AIRPORT PICK UP .ROOM WAS AT TOP BUILDING WITH NO LIFT AND WE WERE OFFERED A LOWER ROOM BUT ACTUALLY DIDNT MIND THE CLIMB AS IT WAS GOOD TRAINING FOR OUR SIGHT SEEING.SHOWER WAS TRICKY BUT IT TOOK ALL OF 2 MINUTES TO FIGURE HOW TO USE.WE CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE AND ESPECIALLY MOON HIGHLY ENEOUGH.

Liked: It is true what everyone says. It is a really friendly place. The staff in the reception is very helpfull and are always smiling. Breakfast was free. Nothing big, but nice. Location is also very good. Only 10 minutes walk to Kiem Lake.

Disliked: Unfortunately it was a big noisy, so I didn't get the sleep I needed. Some people woke up at 5 am, and were speaking loudly. And the room in general wasn't soundproof at all. But if a little noise doesn't bother you, the place is nice.

Liked: 1) promotion - free transport to hostel, 2) transport on the SUV to (paid) and from (free) airport was comfortable and safe. 3) good location - dong xuan market & night market are both behind Hang Luoc street, 4) old city atmosphere, 5) friendly and warm staff - prepared breakfast no matter what time I woke up in the morning and advised on my trip to Halong Bay, 6) clean and safe room with cable channels, 7) provide laundry service

Disliked: I was allocated the top floor on my first day because the other rooms were full. However, I was given a lower floor room once it became available the next day. good service for this re-arrangement.

Liked: The hotel has good location.,very easy to buy food. I ate chicken noudle soup in Pho Vi , this dish was very tasty. Small but clean rooms. friendly staff. Ms moon told me, bus cheaper than taxi . it's not hard to find. just 6 minutes walk to bus station. I booked a halong bay tour in travel company. I went halong 3 days, 1 night bed bungalow, 1 night boat, surprised I been in the same group with three people booking at this hotel, they charged cheaper than me 11$. when I get to my hotel bathroom, open bus and we went together to the south. I am very happy here.

Liked: The owner was lovely we were made very welcome and she went out of her way to help us with any queries or problems that we had. The facilities were great and clean. We were made breakfast whenever we got up, which sometimes was even in the afternoon! We were also given water, bread and bananas when we went on a journey and it felt like we had acquired a mother abroad.

Disliked: There are a lot of stairs up to the room which can be tiring as there is no lift, but will keep you fit!

Disliked: The location was terrible. The staff weren't particularly friendly or helpful and we had a lot of trouble with the lock on our door (spent 5 minutes fiddling with it just to get it open.)

Liked: The room are clean.safe.... comfortable! A free breakfast. They really do all they can to make your stay memorable. They offer a range of tours and I was more happy with both my HaLong Bay and SaPa trips. GREAT VALUE stay for 3% service.

Liked: Very friendly and helpful staff. We were given breakfast each morning and coffee and fruit after a long day sight seeing! Nice room, high up but this was good as we couldn't hear any noise from the street. We have booked another night to come back already.

Liked: The staff were really friendly .they give me a free map and can give me advice on what to see & where to go.the bedroom is clean and comfortable...shower,tv,ac are good! the breakfast is very basic. I booked Halong bay tour on their advice and it was one of my best experiences.the trip to sapa is very nice,sightseeing so beautiful! and then I take open bus ticket to the south...An excellent service with excellent staff!. I would stay here again if ever in Hanoi, and have been recommeding this place to everyone we have meet along the way.

Liked: The owner was friendly, helpful and keen to please. We arrived on an early train and had no trouble checking in at 5 am. We didn't take any tours but did have the desk book us tickets on a Sinh bus to Hoi An. Hanoi tourism is dodgy but everything at the Kangaroo Hotel was on the up and up.

Disliked: The highest room is next to the building's water tank and thus subject to frequent loudness. We only stayed in this room briefly because the one we'd reserved wasn't ready when we arrived (early train) and I don't know if it's normally let out.
