Liked: The way the staff members were truely helpful whenever we had a question or request was very pleasant. Nice meetings there, interesting people, plus the place is very clean which is truely enjoyable.

Liked: the only thing bad about this place is that i didn't get to stay longer. the rooms were clean, the nautical theme was adorable and made the walk up the stairs a bit more entertaining (be prepared for the stairs if carrying a lot of luggage). the staff were really helpful and my walk around the city was great thanks mainly to their recommendations and directions. will definitely be staying here again when next in san fran.

Liked: Summary: HI is better location and worth the extra money. The hostel is truly friendly, but has little common space. The common space is the size of my apartment's living room, so you hear every conversation and music played. Sometimes two different musics at once, plus a conversation. The hostel is near things, but the neighborhood itself is sketchy. When I put an old newspaper in a recycling bin next to the hostel, a man who had been standing in a doorway ran up to the recycling bin and looked in. The hostel has a metal grate door which is locked all the time, which is unnerving: are they afraid that a normal glass door would get broken over night? As a small woman alone, I would still go out, but am not comfortable in the neighborhood. Plus, the hostel is up 4 steep flights of stairs. Go to the HI, where I stayed in the summer. It's large, with lots of common space.

Liked: The staff are all incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. There is a really easygoing vibe at the hostel, and the nightly dinners rock. Close to all kinds of public transport, considerable locker space beneath beds, clean bathrooms - just an altogether great place to stay.

Liked: The hostel was clearly of alright standard and the staff was friendly and helpful over all. However Pacific Tradewinds sports an ever present fraternity atmosphere due to the tight-knit group of part time workers and there hang-around friends, who dictate which of the guests are invited into the social environment and which are not.

Liked: This one was the best hostel I stayed at!!!! Best staff, super friendly and clean environment, showed me places to go, right away gave me a breakdown of the city, big places to lock your stuff.... everything was perfect :)
