Liked: My first impression was that the building was dated but actually it's all part of the charater. When you notice the period details then have breakfast in the ballroom you realise it is a really specail place. Plus it has all the mod cons and other modern facilities I haven't had in other crisply decorated hostels. There is an individual light for each bed, plus four power points for each bed so recharging the camera, laptop and phone was no problem at all. Also massive big lockers under the bed, which were big enough for my whole back pack. It meant the room could be kept tidy. Which is a plus for everyone.

Disliked: Only bad thing (and this is minor) is the stairs up to reception after you've been walking round the city all day! ha ha. That really is the only downside to this hostel!

Liked: Plenty of facilities - 24 hr internet access, sauna (though I didn't try that out), one of the staff offers massages, large social room with pool table & table football etc. They offer a free dinner three times a week which was lovely both times I had it and is a great opportunity to meet other guests. The location was quite central too.

Disliked: Some of the bathrooms were very small with no hanging space for clothes while you were showering but you were unlucky if you had to settle for one of the smaller ones - think I only had to wait for a bathroom once. The room I was in was right on the street and was very noisy but this was mainly due to the fact we had to have the windows open as it was unseasonably hot while I was there, and it was only really my last night that this bothered me as I had to be up ridiculously early to catch my plane!

Liked: Free evening meal mon, weds, fri and it's a really good meal, not just soup. breakfast is good too, bagels and fruit.Loads of things organised by the staff there.Always tell the staff where you are going because they have loads of discounts from pretty much everything, even buying booze at the off license. It's in the topless bar district, but it's not a bad area. Really safe walking around at night, well lit. Good location all round.Really easy to meet people. Bad:Could be more fridge space.Charge for paying by visa for your room. Not enough bathrooms.

Liked: Fantastic location! very central to all the main districts you'd want to visit !!showers were always clean, kitchen too - breakfast in the morning is free and just what you need to get you started. free internet too, overall - just fantastic!!! would stay here again for sure!

Disliked: there are a few xxx clubs along the road from here, which can be a bit crazy late night, however the front door is locked from 8pm every night, so its safe. it seemed loud at night when in the room but i think just a general 'hum' of noise coming from city. nothing that earplugs won't sort :)

Disliked: There are a lot of strip clubs and noise around the area and I didn't feel safe walking around outside the hostel at night. There is no one checking people have keys at reception either so anyone could potentially walk in...

Liked: Nice hippy vibe, very san franciscoan character. Really clean and well kept!

Disliked: Noisy at night, parties going on both inside the hostel and outside in the many clubs along the street. Bring ear plugs if you're a sensitive sleeper!

Liked: I Have been travelling around the world for months now and this is hands down the best hostel ever! infact no other comes even close. The hostel offers fantastic free services, an extensive range of tours to places that would otherwise be near impossible to get to and to top it off the staff are awesome and cant do enough to help youi. the in room lockers are huge, you get free breakfast and three free evening meals a week, free internet and wifi, free beer on a tuesday, need I say more? This is the place to stay in san francisco without doubt.

Disliked: There is literallty nothing not even a little thing I didnt like!

Liked: Free Breakfast, Meals, wifi, internet terminals and video's (for hire). Great place to meet people.

Disliked: The only thing I would warn people about is that the area can be a little dodgy at night. The area is fine during the day and a good location to walk to the main sights but at night it is very busy and in the strip club area and there are a lot of people about at night, wwhich some people might not like. That said its very safe in the hotel and not too noisey.

Liked: The hostel is kind of in the middle of everything. It is just a five minute walk down to Fisherman's Wharf or to Chinatown. Downtown is only about 10 to 15 minutes walking distance. It is quite a big hostel. The rooms are comfortable and the bathrooms are clean. The kitchen is big and offers plenty of space to cook anytime you feel like it. The lounge to hang out is huge and offers a pool table and other fun stuff. They offer about 10 computers with free internet you can use around the clock which is very nice.

Liked: Great hostel, friendly staff. It's a party hostel, so if you're a light sleeper who goes to sleep before 1-2, this probably isn't the place for you. For the rest of us, you don't need to feel bad about waking anyone up because they're still awake or out as well

Disliked: Slightly pricey for a hostel, but given the location in SF it's understandable

Liked: Free food 3 nights a week, the meals were so good! Also free breakfast of fruit and bagels every day. There was a very large common area which was cool to hang out in, in the evening you can drink in there. A pool table. Our room had a nice view out on San Fransisco. They had really big lockers under the bed, you can fit your whole bag in (need your own padlock). The staff were at the desk 24/7 which was good and helpful. There are about 12 free computers with internet, to use any time of the day. We had a sink in our room- very useful! There were quite a lot of bathrooms so you didn't have to wait, except sometimes in morning shower rush, but never over 5 minutes. They allow smoking in the common room after 9pm. The staff organised cheap nights out and pub crawls etc. :)If you go, bike over the Golden Gate bridge! Really good.

Disliked: Nothing much I can think of is bad! Its a pretty good place to stay, maybe slightly more expensive than the others, but definitely worth it.

Liked: The beds were the best beds ive had in any hostel everand the rooms were cleaned daily. Theres free breakie everyday and free meals 3 days the week, which was great. The staff were really helpful and friendly, and the people i met were all very chilled and easygoing. Id definitely stay here again if i come back to San Fran. The only slight issue is the amount of showers, i had to wait every morning, but that really wasnt a big issue.
