Liked: The Avenues Hostel is located in the Avenues (Fst x 2nd), a quiet residential area with vintage houses, well-tended lawns and lots of trees. The outside of the building looks a bit disappointing compared to the nice houses of the neighborhood, but on the inside it is a cozy collection of communal and private rooms. Breakfast is complementary (coffee, toast, jam, eggs) and can be enjoyed in the well-equipped kitchen. Five workstations are available to surf the net 24/24 and there is free wifi. There is a huge TV but the guest respect silence hours very well between approx. 11 PM and 7 AM. Showers and toilets are always very clean. The staff is very friendly and resourceful and they have plenty of good advice. You can basically walk from the Avenues to anywhere in town (downtown 20' or University campus 20') but you can also easily jump a bus on S Temple or around the block on 3d av. A very well-stocked supermarket is only four avenue blocks away (5' on foot), where you can stock up on breakfast extras for the morning or dinner stuff and beers for the evening (beer is not allowed in the communal fridge). The place is relax, totally safe and I can absolutely recommend it. The crowd can be variable, but I met many friendly and interesting people during my stay.

Liked: The hostel was great. The staff was very kind and friendly. Although it was a bit away from the centre of the city, it was a nice walk. I would highly recommend this place.

Liked: Everything! The staff here were SO friendly, felt just like home! the location is beautiful, and close to a supermarket. Everything was clean, the beds the most comfortable i've been in in a hostel. The separate female and male areas were great, made you feel safe and easy to get to know other guests. The free breakfast was great (love eggs!). Had free computers to use and lots of dvds and videos to watch. The Great Salt Lake Tour was great! they should advertise more tours.

Disliked: there were no lockers in the rooms to put valuables, but it was pretty safe, so wasn't that bad. And they didn't put the directions from the greyhound on the site, but take the no 3 bus to 3rd avenue

Liked: Big and with lots of flat screen tv's. In walking distance from downtown in a nice quiet neighborhood.

Disliked: Thin doors, so you can hear what's going on outside in the common area (stayed in a private).

Liked: The price

Disliked: We did email to tell staff we would be late because of Amtrak delays. Also we did not have access to email when we boarded the train . Our Irish cell phones do not work in USA.ornWhen we arrived at 4.30 in the morning we were locked out and just by chance a kind neighbor was walking his dog and offered us assistance and his USA cell phone. Nobody read our email properly plus there should be a buzzer to gain access late at night.

Liked: Close to the center in a beautiful part of town. Good value for little money.

Liked: Really nice homely feel. Three free computer with internet, and the internet and wi-fi in general was very good. They also had a piano which you could use, which was nice. Comfy sofas and a big screen tv. And there was a little outside area to sit around in the evenings, and drink if you choose. Great atmosphere, great people.

Disliked: Nothing really. Could have been a touch closer to downtown, but it's only a 20 minute walk, which doesn't bother me at all.

Liked: at the time i traveled, it was a low season so i enjoyed very much the fact that they did try to spread the guest in different rooms. we would not be more than three at a time...

Disliked: It was in a quaint suburban street - well out of the way of downtown. Also the breakfast was lousy.

Liked: The staff was friendly, the facilities clean (even though old), kitchen etc. sufficient equiped. The location is pretty nice: close to a decent supermarket, quiet & safe (has kind of pretty suburb atmosphere), not to far from downtown and next to public transportation. The breakfast is basic (cereals, milk, coffee, toast). The organized tours (around 35 dollar) are a nice way to get to the Salt Lake and the copper mine - especially since no buses go out there.

Disliked: The internet is extremly sllloooooooooow and really needs to be fixed. 5 Dollars for lugguage storage is too much (to put it plainly) and some lockers would be a nice idea - since some of the doors are not all the time closed.
