The hostel was in a good location, it was close to bus stops that take you right into downtown and the staff are lovely. The only bad thing is that you have to out of the hostel between the hours of 11:00am and 4:30pm, so you cant have a day in if you would ike to or if the wheather is bad, but apart from that the hostel is clean, and the staff are nice. It was quiet when i was there but in summer time it would be a great place to met people, i guess i was there at the wrong time.

I've stayed here 7 days in the past 2 years, and it's a beautiful hostel. Quiet, with lots of common space for people to sit quietly or socialize, separate common space for TV, gorgeous grounds, and friendly staff. You can bike easily to downtown Philadelphia through a beautiful park. It's just 3-4 miles along the river (beautiful!) Kitchen has lots of space and utensils and brand new microwave, but not otherwise updated. It's all perfectly good, though. Much better than Apple Hostel, which is more convenient but located in an alley that smells like urine and has surly staff.

I was completely blown away by this hostel. So beautiful!! It feels like an hotel. I fell in love with the building, an old mansion with wooden floors, old chairs and beautiful tables. There is a huuuughe kitchen and flat screen tele as well. It's maybe not in downtown Philly, but the long way to it is absolutely worthwile. The park area is very nice and peaceful. And the people working there are superb! I've seen a lot of hostels during my world travel, this is propably number one!! Had a fantastic time!

I wasn't sure that a curfew for adults is a great idea or the closing all day

It felt like a very safe place to stay without the fear of any crimes and yet within a major city - something that is rare!

Very nice staff, and location is beautiful in the park, really relaxing, 15 min walk to bus and then half an hour to get into the city, bus runs often enough. No bikes available, unfortunatly, but we had a good time. Be sure to bring some anti mosquito stuff if you like to sit on the porch in the evening. And off course stupid HI-policy: no alcohol allowed on premises, but hey, you get used to that.

I really liked the hostel itself, it is set in an old mansion and the atmosphere is lovely. The location is great if you've got a car but otherwise the bus ride from downtown Philadelphia is pretty lengthy and is followed by a walk of a mile or so. However the hostel will let you use their bikes for free and that was a great way to see the city. Would definitely recommend, rooms are very clean and staff are impressively helpful.

It was a beautiful building in Fairmont Park. The lock out from 11am-4:30pm is annoying. Its a 15 min walk to the bus but the price is right. $20 a night you can't beat that!!

The historical style of the mansion is very romantic and beautiful! The mansion's located lamost one hour away from downtown in the middle of forests so if you love nature you'll love the hostel!

Its a stunning old mansion with good facilities and a nice atmosphere. A perfect hostel if you want relaxing evenings and sightseeing in the day. Not so good if you want to see Phillys nigtlife as its a long way from the centre.

For those with classes or meetings at UPenn the Chamounix Mansion Hostels is very "accommodating." It is just 4-1/2 miles from UPenn on city streets, and three-and-a-half of those miles provide bike lanes or wide shoulders. The site also offers a bike path along the river. The desk clerk was notably accommodating.
