Liked: Loved the mansion and the surroundings (despite being in an 'inconvenient' location); the staff members were very friendly and hospitable; lots of brochures and other travel info available for guests to peruse.

Disliked: Honestly, the 'mattress' was terrible, no springs or support whatsoever; while I appreciated having a bed for the night, it was an uncomfortable one nonetheless. That would be my only complaint, really. Everything else was fine, and it was cool to see a hostel outside the center city area.

Liked: Hostel in beautiful house but really far from the city. Very clean.

Disliked: Really difficult to go there. About one bus every hour on week end. And then you have to walk. Maybe three people on the hostel at this time

Liked: I liked the atmosphere of the antique house and furniture, the friendly staff, the calmness after an eventful day, the big kitchen and good kitchen utensils, nature around the hostel, the cheeky cat which is actually not allowed to enter the hostel but which sneaked by as soon as I oped the door :-).

Disliked: I didn't like my narrow and rather hard a bed. The location of the hostel is tricky to get to when you don't have a car and have to take the bus.

Liked: Lots of internationals, and since it's pretty far from the city they HAVE to stay there by night.

Liked: not a lot

Disliked: the hostel is in the middle of no where! not fun in the humidity with a backpack. they lock you out from 11am to 4:30am they obviously rent it out for daytime activites but its a pain is all you want to do is chill for the day which is sometime the case. I paid for an 8 bed dorm and was put in a 16 bed dorm not cool and there were no lockers in the rooms, only two showers and two toliets and because they rented it out for other use some of the communal areas were closed off, so really not hostel like at all you cant really meet people that well because everyone has to be out in the day, also if you want to leave before 8am you have to tell them before as the lock the doors and you cant get out! Seriously i wish I had paid more to stay at the other HI hostel in philly.

Liked: The room was spacious

Disliked: the location was 25 minutes by bus then 25 minutes walking from the actual city, you were kicked out of the hostel between 11-4.30, the staff were very rude about it, during the time you were not allowed in the hostel they used the time to make money from other groups. not enough to do to keep yourself entertained when actually in the hostel. mattress was uncomfortable.

Liked: I loved the surroundings and the old charmed building. I loved it!

Disliked: You definetly need a car. They should offer a shuttle service, because it was quite a distance from the bus. The road at nigtht was dark and not well lit.

Liked: I found the location satisfying although its proximity to the city center wasn't that close. The environment was a treat as the place was completely surrounded by trees and nightly visits by the fireflies made it even sweeter to stay. If you're not a big nature person, and cannot stand the quiet outdoors, I would not advise this place for you. As for me on the other hand, I couldn't have asked for a better place to stay during my time in Philadelphia. By the way, they also rent out bikes for free, and a bike ride along the river that leads to downtown is a must from the hostel.

Disliked: There was only one thing I found irritating about the place which was its lock out policy from 11-4:30 PM for cleaning, etc.

Liked: If you don't have a car, do not stay at this location. One mile doesn't sound too far, but after a forty minute bus ride that comes every 40 minutes, it's too far. There's not even any breakfast, so you're lucky to eat within 2hrs of waking up. There are no lockers, and no place to leave your bags for the day, since the office is shut most of the day!Bikes are free but are in poor condition. Showers blast you and there's no where to change in privacy. Staff were great.

Liked: It's absolutely not on the average of HI Hostel. It's far away form philly and there's not easy access to pubblic transportation. But most of all it's old, dirty and there are no facilities as hair dryer or locks.

Liked: The location is nice in a park, but it is very far from the city - every busride into the city takes an hour. Except for the bugs that came out in the evening the house was clean and the people were very nice.

Liked: It has tennis courts right next to it, so bring your own rocket or you can borrow and some old one from the hostel. A good way to spend a afternoon if your not feeling for the long busride to downtown.

Liked: The hostel was in a good location, it was close to bus stops that take you right into downtown and the staff are lovely. The only bad thing is that you have to out of the hostel between the hours of 11:00am and 4:30pm, so you cant have a day in if you would ike to or if the wheather is bad, but apart from that the hostel is clean, and the staff are nice. It was quiet when i was there but in summer time it would be a great place to met people, i guess i was there at the wrong time.

Liked: I've stayed here 7 days in the past 2 years, and it's a beautiful hostel. Quiet, with lots of common space for people to sit quietly or socialize, separate common space for TV, gorgeous grounds, and friendly staff. You can bike easily to downtown Philadelphia through a beautiful park. It's just 3-4 miles along the river (beautiful!) Kitchen has lots of space and utensils and brand new microwave, but not otherwise updated. It's all perfectly good, though. Much better than Apple Hostel, which is more convenient but located in an alley that smells like urine and has surly staff.

Liked: I was completely blown away by this hostel. So beautiful!! It feels like an hotel. I fell in love with the building, an old mansion with wooden floors, old chairs and beautiful tables. There is a huuuughe kitchen and flat screen tele as well. It's maybe not in downtown Philly, but the long way to it is absolutely worthwile. The park area is very nice and peaceful. And the people working there are superb! I've seen a lot of hostels during my world travel, this is propably number one!! Had a fantastic time!
