Patrick HoneymanAlthough my room was always warm due to the old-fashioned radiator in there and it was literally space enough to put a bed and my things, the security of the location (being in the upper west side), the help from the hostel staff, the showers which were perfectly clean and worked fine and the convenience of accessing the subway (5 minute walk, 10 minutes approx. subway train and boom, Times Square) and I would say that after the first impressions were put aside I really liked where I stayed. You can stay in more central Manhattan and there are hostels there but you best book them early because that's what every other visitor's thinking too. Plus the price of this hostel per night was approximately a 3rd of the hotels in central Manhattan, so work out what you want to spend your money on (oh yeah, don't forget that they will add state tax onto the cost of your stay when you arrive, not before.) Other than that, I would stay again if I wanted somewhere reliable, well-priced and safe. |

Julie Bjørlund MadsenThat it was cheap, and close to the subway, so it was easy to go places. The accomodations were also very good, the bathrooms were good and clean, and the free Wi-Fi was a great luxury. It was definately the best Hostel I've ever stayed in. |

Customer reviewWe ended up leaving 2 days before we were supposed to as we didn't want to stay there anymore. Candy is a very budget hostel, we stayed in a private room and there were banging doors all night long, there were two bathrooms on the floor, 1 kept blocking up and overflowing which was gross. The room was very basic, there was no cupboard to put anything on, not even a bin. I know everyone says you are not in your room very much when you are travelling but when you are out all day its nice to have somewhere comfortable to relax in when you do come back, even for just a couple of hours. The staff were not 'unfriendly' but didn't go out of their way to help you, everytime we went to the desk to ask a question, one staff member was always on the phone. Also the number of the hostel that is advertised and on your booking, is not where the actual entrance of the hostel is and you have to walk through this other building and get an elevator to the hostel - it looked so dodgy we thought we were in the wrong place. I wouldn't stay here again. |
