Liked: We got an upgrade and free breakfast. Very friendly staff not to bad. ThanksFree Breakfast okay. Rooms and Restrooms are clean, but not enough for so many people. Restrooms partly not in service. Very close to the subway to far away from the airport (1h).

Liked: Great place to stay in the middle of Manhatten. Close to subway. The hostel is very big, but clean. Rooms are very nice and the bathrooms are newly renovated. Next time we will stay there again.

Liked: Such a great location!! Right near central park and the subway. Very clean rooms and the staff were veryhelpful with any questions I had.Great place to meet other travelers too.

Liked: Huge institution like hostel. Big spaces and hundreds of guests. Facilities are new. This has got to be the biggest hostel I´ve seen.

Liked: There was a bunch of good things about this place but it was over shadowed by the bad. THINGS THAT WERE GOOD:Great location - close to central park and to the subway to go downtown.Good facilities - kitchen, theatre, patioTHINGS THAT WERE BAD;Terrible room security with a friend of mine having $200 and a digital camera stolen from his locker which was locked but had been busted open by either a fellow roommate or stranger. It also happened to another English guy in our room but he had nothing of worth in his locker which was lucky for him. When he went to local police station to report the stolen items for insurance purposes, the officer informed that this is a very common occurrence at the HI New York with similar incidents of theft. A word of warning, make sure you have a good lock when visiting this hostel as the thieves seem to target small key padlocks by smashing the lock open with a chisel.Incompetent staff with bad customer service skills that when were told of the items stolen from my friend wrote a report that was to be reviewed by the manager. The manager was then suppose to get back to us to tell us of there findings. We went numerous times over a number a days to find out what happened to find that we should come back later to see the manager. As it happened, the manager had not been there most of the week and one of the staff members didn’t have a clue about this but kept telling us to comeback later or the next day which in the end really pissed us off and we just wanted to get out of there. Not sure if that was there way of blowing us of or if they just genuinely didn’t know what was going on.The HI New York is more a hotel then a fun youth hostel. They constantly have groups of kids coming through as well as families and older people. The also don’t allow alcohol onto their premises which takes some of the fun out of the backpacking experience. HI New York and the Hostel International company have some serious flaws including event management, serious security issues and reservation mishaps. I hope that they can fix these problems soon cause many people like myself have a very bad impression or had a bad experience at one of there hostels which makes me less inclined to visit one of there hostels. Also try to make a good pub crawl, I have yet to have gone on a good one at any HI hostel yet.

Liked: Plain and unappealing dorms (looked like there had been bedbug activity in the past, but no signs while I was there), but they have gorgeous bathrooms! And the free Wi-Fi is useless, to get a good service you have to pay.

Liked: Good location, right near the subway. The services and facilities are great, but for the price, breakfast would have been nice. Lovely outdoor area and nice kitchen but somewhat lacked the social vibe.

Liked: Freundliches Personal, viele Aktivitäten wie z. B. geführte Touren, "Pub Crawl" oder "Grill and Chill" im tollen Hofgarten. Gute Anbindung an die Metro.

Liked: Location is fantastic, just few blocks away from Central Park, Harlem is a great area, the subway is few mn away...really good and afordable this HostelThere are lots of nice little bars and restaurant for cheap.I was a bit shocked on paying 5$ for the lockers for 24hrs, so if your waiting for only few hrs ....considering that checkin is only @4pm!!!! come on!!So careful abt that guys. Showers and bed all is good and I have nothing to say abt it. So for all Backpackers totally recommended.

Liked: Huge hostel, over 600 beds. Close to subway station, the neighborhood is okay but not so much fun. I would recommend staying in a smaller hostel closer to downtown/Brooklyn area.

Liked: Location close to subway station very easy to reach main attractions in short time.Bar crawl with hostel was a good night.Only issue i have was that on arrival i was charged 90 dollars instead of 81 i had already paid 9 dollars deposit through hostelbookers but i only realised this mistake after i had checked out so be sure to check what you owe exactly before arrival.

Liked: hostel had a brilliant location. subway was one block away (2min walk), bars, shops, resturants, fast food etc all near by! the hostel has plenty of vending machines, internet access, its got a cinema room, guitar, bongo's, free book, free maps, tourist brochures etc even got a little cafe which sell sandwiches and bagels!hostel layout of the rooms is very unsociable as it feels like a hotel. plus when i was there there were loads of old people, families and school kids running about which isnt everyones cup of tea. HOWEVER the common rooms are good for meeting other travellers plus the tours and pub crawls are the best organised activities I have ever seen provided in a hostel. some are free and other ones are only 10 dollars! defintely do jerry's tour!

Liked: It's close proximity to the subway is good, but some off the staff are utterly useless. Also, the old bathrooms are like something out of trainspotting (the new ones are nice though)

Liked: Its nice and clean and there are plenty of Spaces. you can nestle down with the lap top or brave the out side areas or lounges to meet fellow travellers.facilities are all being upgraded so god value all round

Liked: The place was incredibly clean when I checked in at 5PM. I liked how everything was set up, and and felt very secure and comfortable there - even when coming back late and leaving early in the morning. The staff was also helpful from my initial phone call for requesting information, to help with questions while I was staying there.

Liked: I only stayed here for one night! Guys I've been to many hostels in NYC and found this one due to all the positive feedback. Its so friendly free wifi and just amazing. Cannot say one bad word about this place the location is good for the subway and the people in the area are so cool! Well worth the money if i go back I'm not going anywhere else! I'm recommending this to anyone! Stay here!
