Liked: Very helpful and nice staff, clean with full facilities, free pancakes at an time, and free airport pickup. It is a great hostel.

Disliked: No nightlife to speak of but that is true for all of Wailuku.

Liked: The Northshore Hostel Maui is definitely a very good place to stay. I shared the 8 beds room with foreigners mostly american it was great. The receptionist is lovely, there is a very good entertainment, people sharing their food, behave on the terrass balcony..a big living room with TV..people share about plans, good deal..well you have to stay there!!!

Disliked: Maybe the location..well it's near the airport and a big Mall (Queen), which is the great location for buses in Maui..but it's not located in the most beautiful part of the island..that's mean it could be even better to rent a car

Disliked: TV in lounge but only programs watched were sports that staff wanted to watch. Kitchen was very poorly equipped. Toilets not cleaned regularly Drawer in kitchen was infested with bugs

Liked: The staff was very friendly and helpful. They put me up in a rather emergency situation. The bed were very comfortable and in good condition. The bathrooms are big and clean.

Liked: It's your basic hostel, average kitchen, only 4 bathrooms for 30-40 people, which means some uncomfortable waiting, and a really loud TV in the center of everything (thankfully required to be off until 5 pm and not audible from my room). Charged me $5 extra per night because I booked through this site rather than the hostel's own website. Renting a car on Maui cost me $118 for the week, and gas was $5-10 per day, so not expensive compared with the cost of not renting one (=not seeing much of the island, lots of time wasted waiting for buses instead of being on vacation). Many guests didn't rent a car, and people who didn't speak to me otherwise would ask me to come along, and it got to be awkward. One woman more than 20 years older than me snubbed me after I declined politely. Even if you don't plan to take advantage of the Banana Hostel's trips, it may be a better idea to stay there to avoid these uncomfortable interactions.

Liked: AMAZING with free international calls!!! Giovanni at the front desk was really helpful and friendly, the hostel was very clean, good kitchen and nice bathrooms, comfy beds, spacious rooms (only one other girl in the 6 bed dorm I was in). Would really recommend this hostel!
