Liked: The staff, an older lady from the Caribbean and ~3 young guys, were all knowledgable and friendly. Some of them were quirky. They told me that girls like me don't usually stay there, so I'm not sure what that means. But perhpas because of the rates and location, the place might attract some folks who were down on their luck? I was looking for a cheap place to stay while I looked at some schools. The internet connection worked and I generally felt safe...I'm a female, mixed race, in my 30s, live a pretty clean-cut life, and I'm not into drinking, smoking, partying, or drugs. Oh, it was great to have my own shower and kitchen facility, and the wireless internet access was sooo helpful...oh, and free tv w/ HBO!

Disliked: There often was a cigarette smell looming through the place. Also, there was a disprepency between the price I had paid via this website and what I was told to pay at the front desk; the customer service folks at hostelbookers didn't get involved or help with this; plus, hostel bookers doesn't have a U.S. contact number. Anyway, the front desk was nice about resolving this, but just beware. Also, if someone wants to listen to loud music, the walls in the place are thin. And it's generally not safe to go around in the area after 8pm at night, and even in the daytime, the docks/shipyards are pretty isolated, so that didn't feel so safe either.

Disliked: dirty bed... not really clean in general, location is not great, they didnt know that we were coming..

Liked: The price The room is correct, with a kitchen inside (but almost nothing to cook) The patio

Disliked: Almost nothing to cook. Only one chair on the double room

Liked: Very friendly stuff, excellent room with TV, refrigirator, kitchen, shower, cofee with muffin at morning, cheep vending machins. 10 min walk to the 232 bus stop, 20 min trip to Long Beach metro rail, 50 min trip to LAX.

Disliked: There were problems with hot water

Liked: Helpful staff and clean, but the building is a bit old so the plumbing makes a loud shrieking noise when the faucet is turned on.
