Great initiative was shown from the staff, who were friendly and helpful, especially with internet log-in and transport issues. Due to transport issues, I checked in reaaally late and the receptionist was nice enough/showed great initiative to give me a free upgrade (female dorm with ensuite this time) cos there was a spare bed. The corridors were a bit bare but the room was really clean and orderly. Right on the footsteps of Venice Beach, cafes, Subway and public transport. Highly recommended.

I really liked the VB Cotel! Staff is friendly, room service is almost hotel like, it's directly at the beach and the Venice Beach Boardwalk.There are always people to meet and drink with in the lounge. Venice Beach is a great location!

Excellent location and friendly and enthusiastic staff. A coat of paint, a larger common room and some kitchen facilities would be useful. Internet access was expensive.

Fantastic location - staff very helpful and friendly. ONLY downside is the smell of cigarette smoke in the non-smoking areas.

Great location right on Ocean Walk, Venice Beach. We had a view of the Pacific from our window! There's a good pub downstairs and other cafes nearby. One problem is that smoking is allowed in the lounge so we had to eat in the kitchen.

First Hostel on this trip and one of the best all round hostels I have ever stayed in. Staff were amazingly helpful and the local is amazing. Highly recommend.

Staff is very helpful and friendly, somehow compensates the incredibly shabby place. The so called private rooms I stayed in had no windows and no bathroom. You can not lock the room from inside or outside, you just turn the key, then its open. Not safe. The shared bathroom was very clean though.

The cotel is cheap, we had a twin room for 25 dollar pp a night which is cheap for LA. The bed was a very small double bed, so we didn't sleep well. Room was ok, but not very clean and the window couldn't open. We didn't like Venice Beach, but if you like it then the location is good. A lot of crazy and poor people (Santa Monica is much better). Staff was very nice!

THEY RIPPED US OFF - we paid by credit card and found an extra night added, have tried to reslove but only hit a wall. The staff look at you as if they hate you! seriously! The location is good if you only want to go during the day, need to get a $10 each way cab if you want to go out at night.
