Located about 50 miles southeast of Columbus, near Nelsonville, the Bessemer Hostel is owned and managed by environmental author/activist Chad Kister on the second floor of his house. The rustic hostel is a nature lovers paradise as Kister's homestead has hand dug ponds and diverse wildlife. About Bessemer Hostel

Bessemer Hostel has tile and hardwood floors, cable TV, high speed internet, a library, a pool table and views of miles of forest. A hiking trail into thousands of acres of the Wayne National Forest starts from the hostel (open only to hostel guests), and the Buchtel Food Mart is a half mile away with $1.25 slices of pizza, beer, groceries and basic necessities. Monday Creek is a half mile away with canoeing and kayaking opportunities, and the Hocking River is two miles away with, smallmouth bass fishing and kayaking/canoeing opportunities. Nelsonville is two miles away, a vibrant artist community with a coffee shop and 2 bars.

Accommodation Information

The hostel has two private rooms (each with a bed and additional cots are available upon request (both adult and child-sized)) for $20/night, $90/week, a 4 person mixed gender dorm room ($10/night). Free internet is available along with cable TV, a library and a pool table. The hostel has a full bathroom with a bathtub, and a full kitchen. A washing machine and dryer are also available. The hostel has two porches and great views. Miles of hiking trails are in the backyard through the Wayne National Forest. The Bessemer Hostel offers 24-7 free phone service with free long distance anywhere in the US and affordable international calling.

Location Information

The hostel is at 4592 Bessemer Rd. Nelsonville, Ohio, about an hour drive southeast of Columbus. (The house on the top of the hill from the structure with solar panels). It has a green metal roof, white siding and a brown block bottom, with large shade trees around it. A convenience store is nearby with $1.25 slice of pizza, groceries and beer, and thousands of acres of the Wayne National Forest are in the backyard. The Go Bus goes from Columbus to Nelsonville and Athens, for only $10. It is about 2 miles from the bus stop (at Hocking College) to the hostel (a scenic walk or bike ride).
