Liked: Hostel location is very close to trains & buses. It was in walking distance of shopping, and public parks. Also, go on the walking tour offered by the hostel. I went on Monday 10am tour, led by George, a native Chicagoan; it was about architecture. very interesting.

Disliked: Convenient location, but the "EL" (the train) runs above ground. Every morning, I would hear the train rumble by at 5am.... a very early alarm clock!!! The staff at check-in desk isn't very friendly. I mean, part of their job is customer service. I have stayed at other Hostelling International properties, and they're definitely friendly elsewhere.

Liked: I was the last 3 weeks in this hostel and of course I recomend all of you, is located close to the Grant Park and Michigan Anenue is just 5 minutes walking. From the Airport you have metro L blue and takes it until La Salle...40 minutes. You have metro and bus, closed and you can take the bus 29 for go Navy pier. Really we enjoyed there, the staff is very nice, allways giving information about the city and worried about how is going the trip, if we needed something...very friendly people :-), we had it a city tour guide 1 hour and half, and the Hostal recommended you events for this day.The Hostel is clean, breakfast is included, and all are facilities, towels,lockers..I have no doubts that if i back to Chicago will be back these place. Enjoy your trip!

Liked: Great location, 1 block from central station. Nice but simple breakfast - muffins, oranges, juice, coffee, cereal, toast.Large rooms with big lockers - but squeaky bunks which could be distracting for light sleepers!

Liked: The hostel is located in a GREAT location! You can walk to various attractions and metra stations very easily from the hostel. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The only downside is that I stayed in the summer and there were lots students from camps staying there.... so it was very loud. The cleanliness of the bathroom could be improve a little bit, too. Other than that, rooms are big and clean. The atmosphere and the facility is very nice.

Liked: Perfect location. Close to everywhere. Offers quite a few discounts for museums and stuff so good value. Wifi available for free and computers for about $2/20min. Good breakfast.When you come and want to use public transport (at least 3x a day - 24hrs) buy CTA pass - at the hostel they sell 3 and more day ones - 1 day passes are available at CVS.If you forgot to bring a lock you can get one at 7/11 or CVS close by.

Liked: the BEST hostel ever! they have always activities for the guests, and is really good specially when we are travelling alone because we meet lots of people from all around the world. I RECOMMEND

Liked: One of the best Hi Hostels around. Location is unbeatable in Chicago, within a few blocks of tourist attactions, waterfront, metro, shops and city centre. Breakfast is very good. I don't like the mixed shower and toilet rooms, and the cleaning log shows it is only cleaned once per day. Had a few problems with the free wifi, it wasn't working too well, and only available in one small area of the hostel.

Liked: The place was great just 2 downsides. 1) I booked my room as if I was arriving on a Friday since I wanted to check in very early on Saturday morning. Well they sold my room and I had to wait for Saturday at check in time. 2) When I did check in my bunk looked like it had not been cleaned or at least put new sheets/towels. I was given an upgrade though to a 8 bed room with shower so hey. I really wasn't bothered since I found things to do, plus HI Hostels has free activities like the Chicago walking tour I did on Saturday morning before check in. Also pool table, air hockey table, table tennis, wi-fi, and met a cool group each of a different nationality. Don't know why it took me so long to discover hostels. I wish I would have had the same fun at the HI Hostel in Santa Monica (Los Angeles) back in March.

Liked: The location was great and with easy access to the bus and trains it was great. I like the big dining area as well as the cozy library (albeit someone removed the nice couch unfortunately), and the showers were real nice. A couple of the helpers were quite nice, thorough in helping me get to places, and were quite cordial. Others were okay and gave only the minimalist amount of input for which I'd have to fend for myself afterwards. The rooms and hallways etc. were stinky but tolerable. The bed was fairly comfortable though squeeked at times. The free available lockers were most spacious and handy. This is my second stay here, and I love it that it's alcohol free! Thank God for that! Hats off to good ol' Chicago!
