Liked: Lovely and clean hostel but the dorm was very nice. But thats the trouble - its like a hotel...i found it quite unfriendly and uninviting and the staff were so different from the other HI hostels in the USA ive stayed in - they didnt really seem too bothered about helping you etc...LOVED the cafe next door tho - lovely staff and great, reasonablypriced FRESH food - the owner is lovely....the staff at the hostel ought to take a leaf out of his book..

Disliked: The staff Most of the guests were unfriendly and everyone kept themselves to themselvels....NOT A HOSTEL EXPEREINCE AT ALL... way off... Also- come on...having to smoke outside on the streetby a busy road...that sucks. The bathrooms on 4th floor were also quite dirty.

Liked: A little expensive but not too much considering the location and overall helpfulness of staff. Breakfast included was nice.

Liked: It was a great stay, they have included breakfast. Cleanliness is usually up to the people that is in your room, rather than the staff, as the common areas were always in good shape. There can be no better location for the price and the staff at the information counter are super friendly and resolved all of my doubts. They have some good discounts on museums and are full of activities, even though I didn't do any because I had plans already at my arrival.

Disliked: To be honest I was quite satisfied with everything.

Liked: Common areas are great, breakfast is very good (and even if you come late you still get food). There are vending machines on every floor. Staff are friendly and helpful, the information desk with volunteers is added value. All in all great stay.

Disliked: The curtains in the shower could be a bit bigger. And although it was very nice to have a paper towel dispenser in the room, the automatic thing is not the best choice - the sound is kind of annoying in the middle of the night.

Liked: It's a nice hostel, in downtown Chicago, close to everywhere. The tours the hostel offered were cool and I met really nice people there!!

Disliked: The bathroom could be better.

Liked: Perfect location, lots of organized tours.

Disliked: Only one shared bathroom per gender per floor & no sink in dorm rooms. Things worked out surprisingly fine. $3/night fee for non-members.

Liked: The hostel offers really nice (and often free!!) excursions. The staff was the friendliest I have ever experienced and the location is great.

Disliked: When not having your own computer you have to pay for the internet. However, since the public library is next door and offers computers with internet for free this is only a minor drawback.

Liked: The location was great: it was easy to get to and a great base to explore the city from. It was also reasonably priced and the dorms were clean and comfortable. The majority of the staff were very friendly and helpful. Check out the notice boards and ask at reception about discounts available for hostel guests; such as the skywalk, the architecture tours and the Hancock observatory.

Disliked: The hostel lacked an atmosphere. The common areas were spacious but there wasn't anywhere welcoming to meet other backpackers. A couple of members of staff were not overly helpful. I would still recommend the hostel but don't expect it to be the most exciting stay.

Liked: It's clean and spacious and us guests are well provided for here. There are several outings organized, a full kitchen, clean and comfy rooms and a few useful discounts for guests at various town attractions.

Disliked: I think I just prefer the independent hostels to the chain ones. While the staff was pleasant it was very obvious that this was a chain hostel and more of a business venture then somewhere where the staff and guests interact. Since it is big it is also somewhat hard to meet and connect with people, I managed to meet folks but things just felt very spread out here.

Liked: The ceiling is very high for a good sleep. It is necessary in the rooms that accommodate 10 people.

Disliked: A map at the webpage could be better for the diractions from Lasalle station.

Liked: Great location for visiting downtown attractions and very easy for getting to and from airports, AMTRAK, Greyhound and with all local bus and metra services on the doorstep

Disliked: It's very big, somewhat impersonal and is run as a big business so lacks the personal touch

Liked: Clean, has a pool table and a ping pong table. Nice rooms.

Disliked: Gets so hot in the lounge area, especially if there are a few people around. They need some air conditioning. Also, atmosphere is pretty flat, and there are lots of 16 year old kids around, as well as older people.

Disliked: Make sure you ask for a bottom bunk. Top bunks have no shelving to store anything (like your phone for an alarm) and no power outlets.
