Liked: I had an incredible stay in Chicago largely due to people I met through the hostel. Free events organised daily including a tour of the loop. If you come don't waste 2 hours queueing for the sears tower, but instead go up to the free (to enter) bar on top of the john hancock building as there is never any wait. Go at sunset also.

Liked: I had an unfortunate run of luck in chicago having my cash and a credit card stolen from my wallet while I slept, let this be a lesson, always lock up your valuables (even if you are in the room with them) however the staff at HI were great Rey was a spectacular help during a difficult time. This hostel is non drinking so meeting people can be more difficult than at other hostels however the hostel does put on events most night so that makes up for it some what, overall a great place to stay

Liked: The location downtown was superb for access to the city, the beds were comfortable, and the staff very enthusiastic and welcoming. Free breakfast! A bit worn on the inside, and that is the only complaint I can think of. I will stay here again when I visit Chicago. The hostel organizes activities, at least one every day, as well as lets you know what other (usually free) events are going on each day. Their information desk was always staffed and ready with maps, info about anywhere you'd want to go, and lots of helpful advice.

Liked: The price on HostelBookers is NOT the true price -- they make you pay a lot of additional "taxes", which are included in the price listed here. Very deceptive. Also the showers were disgusting. But most of the staff was nice, the facilities are good, great location. Overall, a nice place, but beware that it's more expensive than you think.

Liked: It is a very strange hostel, because it looks like a hotel, just with shared rooms. Rooms are big, but there is no sink and no shelves to pile your stuff on. Can be inconvenient if you have an upper bunk. Also, there is only 2 showers and toilets on the floor, although I never seen a queue. Oh, don't forget your lock, because they have lockers, but no locks for them. All in all, it is a comfortable place to spend several nights, but it is not a real hostel experience.

Liked: Location is extremly good and the hostel is organizing events every day and provides extremly good information about events, locations and restaurants bar. It is very easy to meet new people here.

Liked: Excellent location, central and within walking distance of everything; Grant Park only 5 ins, Arts Institute of Chicago, Lake Michigan, Sears Tower, Museum of Contemporary Arts, Planatarium, The Magnificent Mile, Subway & CTA trains, Greyhound and much much more. HI-Chicago is super organised and the staff ever so helpful, friendly, well informed, profesional and courteous. The rooms are large and airy, with confortable beds. Excellent information desk on 2nd floor; they can inform you of all the free entry days for museums and other activities, going as far as giving you money off coupons and they organise movie nights and local tours too. There's free WiFi and computer terminals at a charge, but you can avoid this charge by going to the library one block next door. Excellent breakfast for a hostel. I highly recommend this place; great hostel for meeting likeminded travelers. Stay here with confidence.

Liked: It's a great hostel and actually one of the best and biggest i have ever stayed at. We had a 10-bed female dorm and the room was huge. We had lockers and enough space to store our luggage. There is a very international atmosphere and you get to know people pretty easy. The location was fine to. However everything is in walking distance, subway and bus stations are right around the corner. My friend was a little disappointed about the breakfast. She stayed at another HI before and they offered a bigger variety there. Anyways I totally recommend the HI-Chicago.

Liked: I liked it that the rooms were clean. Even if you go there alone you can meet a lot of people and make friends from all around the world. I would prefer a bigger variety at the breakfast table,more fruit especially.

Liked: A really great hostel in the middle of everything, the staff is great..actually breakfast you can eat which is a large plus, arrange outings where you meet alot of other people and have lots of fun!! When I get back to Chicago this is the place to stay!!!! Love this place!!
