Liked: It had clean dorm rooms, and the patio seemed nice. Breakfast was also decent.

Disliked: The rooms were HOT and stuffy as they had no real window to the outside except for one small one above the door, but if you left that open then all the sound from the courtyard gets in. If you want sleep, you will not find it here because of how the building is set up, I felt bad for the people in the rooms right next to the courtyard. Only one women's toilet (ONE!!) for all the dorm rooms, and one for the men. Two people arrived to our dorm at 2 am, and the staff member showed them to the room, turned the lights on ad woke up the rest of us who were sleeping, and then proceeded to tell them all the hostels policies right there instead of doing it outside the room before letting them in. They were very quiet and quick to make the beds and shut the light back off, but the staff member did not have to have so little thought for those of us trying to sleep. We are returning to Montevideo next week and will not be staying here.

Liked: Great location, really clean, SUPER comfortable beds, really sweet staff!

Disliked: It was not a high season so it made me a bit lonely..:( Anyway it was really cold and they had no heating system in the room! So I had to sleep with my coat on..

Liked: The staff was very friendly and helpful. They had a delicious asado the day we were there, and although it was a little pricey, it was totally worth it. The hostel is clean and had hot water at all hours. It has a nice patio and little bar. The location is in the centro which isnt the nicest part of the city but you can get anywhere from there. Breakfast was also pretty good, bread (butter,jam), yogurt, coffee, tea.

Disliked: a few things to be aware of... * you will probably be asked if you want to buy a Hostelling International Card. The main intended use for the card may be the 10% discount it offers on hostel bookings. However, you may not be informed that, if you book hostels through Hostelbookers, the 10% HI discount doesn't apply. * The cost of a HI card is quoted as $15. A conversion of the 300 Uruguayan pesos charged is c.$16.40. It's unclear why extra is charged. * After, for example, a night's stay booked through Hostelbookers, you will be reminded early the following morning that you need to decide soon if you want to extend your stay. This is annoying. That aside, be aware that if you let the hostel know that you want to stay on, any extra night(s) will be charged at the hostel rate, a higher rate than that charged on Hostelbookers. If you want to stay on, and even if you're already in the hostel, book on-line for a better rate. * It's difficult to avoid the conclusion that the common areas/use of tv etc. are more for the benefit of those working there than for those who have paid for the service.

Liked: Good breakfast, Good lockers in the dorms, nice bar area and terrace, the staff were really friendly and helpful (they booked our bus ticket for us which was handy as the bus station is far from the centre), offered dinner every night which would be a good way to try some local food.

Disliked: Nothing really, although a couple of private bathrooms would have been nice.

Liked: The location was good. It was within walking distance to the old city and quite close to anything else you were interested in seeing.

Disliked: Although the check-in form had asked whether we wanted assistance booking bus tickets, when we asked the girl at the desk simple questions regarding this, she was not even remotely helpful. We didn´t expect her to book them for us but it would have been helpful to have been given some sort of direction. Also, the outdoor kitchen was in a constant state of disaster, with ants, slugs and other bugs crawling around which made the dinner we were cooking significantly less appealing.... The last night we were staying there, the employees had a birthday party for a friend (or someone who did not work at the hostel, nor were they staying there) in the common area. Not only did we not feel welcome, it went on quite late and kept us awake for hours. This was not appreciated but as the only staff members working were taking part, we really had noone to complain to.

Liked: Clean sheets, clean bathroom with fresh towels and soap (we stayed in a private double ensuite). The bed was comfortable and the tv had a good range of channels. The courtyard is nice to sit and have a drink and the staff were very helpful.

Disliked: Breakfast was a bit disorganised as there were too many people and not enough chairs for everyone. The hostel seemed short staffed in the morning.

Liked: Very clean. Comfortable beds. No locks on dorm room doors, but good size lockers so bring a lock. Breakfast was a little lackluster. Courtyard is lovely for beers and card games. Montevideo is a bit anticlimatic in itself.

Liked: This is a fun place to be. Only downside was that the bathroom we had smelled bad, but this was still a heritage of the former hostel. They are doing a great job in upgrading the hostel to todays standard.
