If you speak Russian, it's a brilliant hostel as the staff are very very friendly and well, you get exactly what you pay for really. I can see why people wouldn't like it if they don't speak Russian as well the water is often cold, the bathrooms communal and the mattresses are hard lol. Buuut I really liked it (was with friends - maybe being alone and not knowing much about Russia/Ukraine and things like methods of travel etc) would make it seem not very nice. Ultimately It was enjoyable, the staff friendly and very helpful (such as ordering taxis, bus times and numbers, etc), felt as safe as could be really and 10 minutes on a marshrutka (minibus) to Sevastopol or few minutes into the centre of Balaklava (which is a lovely little town). :)

Nice and cheap place to stay, but some difficulties in order to be understood (people I met only ukrainian speaking). However, regarding the price requested and the clean room remains a valuable place to stay.

At least one of the daytime staff knew English and was very helpful.
Peaceful place, good for doing some reading and planning of onward travel.
