Liked: Funny Dolphin has a very friendly staff that is always available to help with any questions, not only regarding the hostel but with the town as well. They provided great information on places to see while staying and how to get around.

Disliked: When the hostel is fully booked it can be a little cramped, but it was great to meet people coming to stay from all over the world.

Liked: Really helpful owners, nice little apartment where the doubles are. Close to town and the bus/rail stations. Owner organised a cheap tour for us. Place highly recommended.

Liked: The two beds room was in fact in a separate appartment with two rooms. Very great, not many people to share the bathroom and kitchen with.

Disliked: Nothing. But be ready to call the owners when you arrive, there might be noone at the main hostel when you arrive.

Liked: Marina was very friendly and full of useful advice. The hostel was well-kept and clean. Relatively easy to find from the main railway station and a good place to base your travels around Crimea.

Liked: It is located right in the city center and it is the best hostel you can find in Ukraine. It's air-conditioned, clean, spacy and it is in the beautiful city. If I went to Ukraine again, I'd go to this hostel for sure and I would spend more days in Sevastopol. It is definetely worth it.

Liked: We booked two rooms for 4 people, and it happened that the apartment had only 2 rooms, so basically we got a full apt, a place to park the car just in the middle of the city. Yuri, the owner of the place is a super guy, I really appreciated his help. This was probably the best place we stayed in Ukraine, highly recommended!

Liked: I had a great time at Funny Dolphin! The hostel is centrally located, close to everything, the owner, Yuriy is extremely friendly and will help you with anyting you need during your stay in Ukraine. Also, you will find a fully equipped kitchen here, a balcony, TV, just everything you need!If I come back to Sevastopol one day, I'll definitely stay here again! :)

Liked: A really nice place to stay during a visit to Sevastopol. From the outside the building will look very shabby but once you get inside, it's modern, clean and totally up to Western standards.. The staff is also very helpful.

Liked: You'd never guess from the outside that this was a hostel, but the inside is newly kitted out and although there is no permanent staff presence, they made themselves available to give useful advice about what to see and how to get around. And I will admit that I prefer the small, quiet atmosphere to the full-on, up-all-night hostelling experience. For me it was a great home base for exploring Crimea and I shall almost certainly be returning next year.

Liked: This place is really an apartment but very nice with great kitchen , and very good toilet and shower. If all the bed are used it could be a little cramped but it was OK. My strong advice is to inform Marina the owner of your time of arrival in Sevestopol. It is a long climb to the street where the apartment is located. but in a good area and 20 min walk from the center. Most buses go from nearby Suvorov St.There is no reception as such and you need to wait for her arrival at the building otherwise. The 3 security no buttons all need to be pressed at the same time.Also there is a wi-fi facility which is useful as internet cafes can be difficult to locate. Once you have your keys issued then the Apartment was very secure. Indeed there is no public indication of a hostel. Marina was very informative , friendly,and speaks excellent English.

Liked: Had an excellent time in Sevastopol and really enjoyed this hostel. Personally, I really liked the fact that for three of the 4 nights I was here I had the whole place to myself (there don't seem to be many tourists in Crimea at this time of year (October)). On the fourth night there was just one other person staying which was cool as well. It was great to be in a hostel where you weren't awoken at all hours by selfish idiots returning from a night "partying".However, I suspect the hostel will be much busier in the Summer months, so maybe my experience wasn't typical, although due to it's relatively small size, I don't envisage any problems in this regard.I thought the people who ran the hostel (Marina and Yuriy) were fantastic - they were on hand to answer any queries etc. It was very clean and had all the facilities advertised except for internet access - but there were cheap internet cafe's in the vicinity anyway so that was no problemI definitely recommend this hostel and would come back again without hesitation.Mick Brooks (England, UK).

Liked: When you first get to the Kuchera street and see the state of it, the street where the hostel is located, you start to panic about where you have ended up. Then you get to the front of the building and find no sign or any display indicating that you are at the hostel front door and thus you panic further and wonder about the legitimacy and legality of the place.And then… when you enter into the entrance hall of the building and see the derelict conditions… then you are in shock and for a moment you might feel like dashing away.But hang on and calm down! Once you get inside the actual appartment your anxiety will ease off.Inside the appartment is a decent place where you will be comfortable. All available facilities work properly and nothing is troublesome.It cannot be blamed only on the hostel management, but you need to be aware that the commercial practices in East Europe are not similar to the ones in the West Europe. Wherever you go, you pay for something and they just take your money and you get no receipt and then again, you worry about an eventual case if you need to make a claim or complaint without a receipt, whether in the Ukraine or back home to claim on your travel insurance for example. But as said, all East Europe is like that and Ukraine is no exception.In the particular case of the hostel, not only that you get no receipt, but you do not sign any terms and conditions either and so you do not really know where would you stand if something goes wrong or turns out in an undesirable way. For example: I was lucky to share the place with two German girls and a couple, he from Poland and she from Slovakia. They all were friendly and considerate people. But what would happen if some guests turn out to be unruly backpackers? Without terms and conditions or any directives for the stay it will be difficult to set some order or discipline among the guests. Nevertheless, in spite of commercial flaws; this is a recommended place to stay.In customer services there is a rule of thumb to gain the loyalty of a customer. The rule is: “Customer’s expectations must be surpassed”.And this is what Marina and Yuri, the management of the hostel do. They surpass your expectations because the go far to extra lengths to serve you and look after you.I explained that commercial practices are not up to European standards, but it is only fair to say that the human factor in this hostel very much exceeds the level of personal attention that you normally may get in West Europe.During my stay in Sevastopol I had problems that were not related with the hostel. However, Marina, one of the owner managers, went beyond her duties to help me.And the same goes for Yuri, he is also a very helpful gentleman.To sum up, this hostel has some flaws, but it certainly can be recommended. So to the point that I probably will be back to it next year.

Liked: For Ukraine it was very clean. It is near to the train and bus station on Sevastopol and by foot to the centre. But the street is poorly enlighted. It is an appartment not proper hostel, so you cant meet much people there. Internet and microwave wasnt working.

Liked: Great place to stay !However, we were disappointed by the guided tour we booked. The tour cost about 20 euros to go visit the city of Balaklava and the secret submarine facility. What we got was just being accompanied by an unexperimented guide who didn't bring any added value. But we heard from other people that tours with the owners were really intersting and worth it. So, if you book a tour, ask to go with the owners !

Liked: We spent three days and we almost feel like being at home ! Youri and Marina are really nice and of good help... they give their hostel a really good atmosphere ! Sometimes the hostel could seem a little bit too small (only one bathroom), but the atmosphere is good and convivial, which is more important ! Clean, calm, good location... excellent place to stay and meet real good people !

Liked: Yuri and Marina are a fantastic couple and it was a pleasure to stay at their hostel. They are always happy to recommend activities to do and sights to see. The hostel is clean, towels and linen are provided and the kitchen is really modern. There is a good supply of hot water for showering.If ever they offer you a place in their holiday cottages in Balaklava, say YES! Some of us moved on there after Sevastopol and Yuri even drove us there. They were in a great location and even had barbecuing facilities.Thanks for a great stay. I will certainly recommend you to others travelling to Crimea!
