toilets and showers are never cleaned, our door handle was broken, toilet seats were broken, they don't spend any money on repairing the place, the only positive was the location, that's it, incredibly difficult to sleep well, so much noise especially from the turkish men working at the tour agency next door...

nothing!!! on arrival we were dumped in a downstairs room in reception, the bathroom and toilets were across reception meaning we wud've had to carry our belongings across or run across reception in a towel! the room was pocky and dark, the windows were open at street level (meaning ppl could climb through), you couldnt open the curtains becasue all the men sat in close proximity outside would think it an open invite to stare in!! we then asked to be moved and got shown upstairs to another room, a nicer spacious room with 6 beds only being occupied by 2 British girls, like us, made us wonder why he didnt just put us in there to begin with rather than dumping us in ground floor room!! then we had showers, the water ran cold, one shower door doesnt even close from the inside. later that night very loud music being played on the roof terrace could be heard through our ceiling, when asked wot time it was turned off we were told 11,then when the music was still on at 12 and we were unable to sleep i had to go back downstairs and ask again when the music was promptly turned down. we went upstairs for breakfast only to find 2 full grown rabbits couped up together in a tiny ridiculous hamster size cage,if not smaller, they had no food or water,my friend informed a man who stared at her then grabbed the rabbits and a handful of parsley and proceded to just shove the parsley in their cage!!! my friend and i are very laid back friendly people, i have been on a 4 month round the trip and stayed in many many hostels in different parts of the world and my friend has travelled Europe for 4 months so she has seen many hostels too, neither of us have ever encountered somewhere as bad as this place in all the countries we're visited between us, i wouldnt normally leave a review but think others should be warned as the ratings and reviews for this place are completely incorrect, however if u want cold showers, loud music until midnight above ur ceiling and animal cruelty then i reccommend it, oh and the doors dont have locks so any other hostel stayers or burglars can freely enter ur room and help themselves to your belongings, even the rooms in remote Fijian islands i stayed in could manage a lock, considering how busy Istanbul is u would think the owners would put customer safety first!!

Istanbul Hostel is real value for your money. The location is perfect with the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia around the corner, tram station Sultanahmet on 3 minutes walk and near most other top attractions of Istanbul. Breakfast is not much (4 olives, a piece of cucumber, piece of tomato, piece of cheese, butter, cherry jam and as much bread and tea as you want) but it is enough to start your day and get through until lunch time. There are lockers in every room, which are about the 25 by 25 cm, be sure to bring your own padlock for it. At the reception you can leave your laptop or photo camera in a bigger safe. The rooms and beds are clean, the shower and toilets are also cleaned regularly, and are quite ok. The roof terrace is great with a view over the Bosphorus and the Hagia Sophia. Unfortunately the ceiling was leaking in my room during my entire stay, however I could change beds without any hassle (it was dripping on one of the beds). There's no keys for the dorms, but with enough employees being around and the safe at the reception, it is quite safe to leave your stuff in your room. All in all, I would highly recommend this hostel to anybody as it's great value for what you get.

Good hostel, great location, nice rooftop, cheap beer, I've stayed at a few hostels in the area and this is the best one I've stayed at. Some the other ones down the road are the same price and pretty dumpy with rude staff, ie Best Island. Both my stays at Istanbul hostel have been very enjoyable. Thanks guys

good hostel but it lacks hot water at times/. it can also be pretty noisy because of new guests arriving and the rooms can be right next to the lobby. good place to stay in Sultanahmet though. oh, breakfast is crap :)

Good location. Can walk to all the sights and great terrace up top. The only real complaint I would have about this place is the creepy hostel owner. He seems friendly at first but then he goes on and talks about how many girls he could get with. But to be fair, a lot of Turkish men I've met have been like that.

Istanbul is a wildly expensive city, and this hostel is good value. It's nothing special, but it's cheap and perfectly adequate to suit most backpackers' needs. Its location is good for sightseeing, though if you're in the market for nightlife, you might be better off at a hostel in the trendier Beyoglu area.
