Liked: Staff were really very friendly and helpful. Location was great.

Liked: Location

Disliked: Pretty much everything apart from location- the staff were really unfriendly and unhelpful. They put us in the wrong room then tried to charge us when we'd decided we'd had enough and found somewhere else.

Liked: There is good view from the roof - breakfast is also on the roof. It's reasonably quiet and location is perfect.

Disliked: Immitation of the wood on the walls. It's really cheap. :)

Liked: Location. Right near some major attractions.

Disliked: It was hot in our six bed dorm room so we asked for a fan. We were told that there were no fans and 'this is a budget hostel, not a five star hotel'. It made the nights very uncomfortable.

Liked: The location was great for all the tourist sights, and the breakfast in the morning was a real bonus. I don't recommend booking any tours through this hostel though as you will find your own for cheaper.

Disliked: MY ADVICE DON'T GO ON THE TURKISH BATH TOUR FIND YOUR OWN. We were interested in going for a Turkish bath and discovered a place ourselves costing 30 lira. However when we asked the owner for the directions of this place he informed us our book (published in 2010) was out of date but he could get us a deal costing 55 lira which included transport there. I'm happy to say we ignored our hotel guide and it cost us 30 lira for the bath and 1.50 lira to take the tram four stops and find it. After this we never went on any of the tours offered by the hostel and found our own for cheaper. The owner was really friendly providing us with a map, but after this I found it hard to trust him. Also the free walking tour advertised on the website is non-existent.

Liked: One member of the 3 reception staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was nice and free. It's in a nice safe seeming area, nice to walk around in the evenings with all the lovely buildings.

Disliked: Another of the 3 reception staff was very unhelpful and cranky all the time. They mixed up our booking and we couldn't check in when we should have been able to, that first morning was especially unpleasant since we had arrived on an overnight bus and were exhausted but had nowhere to go. It's far from the main nightlife scene.

Liked: Nice location, friendly and very helpfull staff and a good view from the roof terrace.

Disliked: No real common room or kitchen (especially a fridge would be nice), and the rooms are very hot and noisy.

Liked: Very helpful and friendly staff. They can give you some really useful hints and recommendations (restaurants, bars, etc.). Istanbul Hostel is a nice quiet small hostel in the city center next to the most known sights of the city. We stayed there as a couple in a double room. We did not get into contact with many other people. This is why I rated it "bad" as a "fun place to meet people". However, if this is not important for you, because you travel as a group or as a couple, I can say nothing bad about this place.Enjoy your stay!
