Liked: The whole property was very clean, bright and tidy and well looked after. The staff were very friendly

Disliked: The dorm was very noisy at night and it was very hot with just fans no air con. The windows had to be open to cool the room and it is on a very busy road. The staff were a little overbearing especially when we were using the internet downstairs. The wifi did not work in the room for us

Liked: Although a good 10 minute walk from the center, the Green Tulip House was extremely clean, very tranquil, and the staff was wonderful, especially Nine! She was very helpful booking our 3 day trek, and she had great deals on many other activities such as Thai cooking classes, Tiger Temple, and many other things. And the rooms were at a great price, actually the best of all the places we've been in Thailand! When I got back to Bangkok, I saw many people looking to book places in Chiang Mai, and I would immediately recommend the Green Tulip House! My overall experience was excellent!

Liked: Free internet, free breakfast (albeit two slices of toast...)

Disliked: Loud, staff tried to push us into taking one of their tours despite us telling them we'd booked our own.

Liked: The staff are amazingly friendly, very helpful and are very good at suggesting things to do, if your stuck for ideas. The whole place was cleaned constantly by the staff. The Siam Rice cooking class was brilliant and we would highly recommend it!

Disliked: Only 2 bathrooms.

Liked: What's not to like! The location is really convenient for exploring Chiang Mai on foot. It is also a great place to meet other travelers. The entire hostel is spotless clean and they offer good food for reasonable prices. Estella and Nai, who run the place, are very friendly and helpful. They make an effort to treat every guest like a special one, making you feel at home and completely relaxed. They are always available for any information or advise you may need. If I come back to Chiang Mai, there is no other place I would stay. This is the best choice!!

Liked: Everything! This is the best hostel I've visited and that's after many hostel experiences throughout the world. The staff have a real gift for making everyone feel as if they've arrived home. The environment is awesome and Stella, the owner, has chosen an amazing selection of music that plays in the main area. The location is fabulous. It's on the Thai side of town and unless you have a burning desire to reside on the sleazy, nosiy, touristy side of town you will love this location. The hostel itself is quiet and unbelievably clean. I've stayed in expensive hotels that weren't this clean. Do yourself a favor and stay at the Green Tulip! I promise you that you will want to come back again and again. I stayed in Chiang Mai longer than expected and am already planning my next trip back to the Green Tulip.

Disliked: Absolutely nothing. The location, helpfulness of the staff and safety of the area and the hostel itself is the best I've encountered.

Liked: Very freindly and helpfull staff. Feels like beeing home in some way. The Value for the prices is just perfect and you have a chance of meeting a lot of other travellers.

Liked: The place was clean.

Disliked: Before I even saw my room I was being pushed to buy jungle treks and elephant riding AND cooking lessons. The hostel offers a restaurant and has a bar. However, both the food and the beer are twice the price that I found anywhere else in Chiang Mai. When I ask about different trips, one of the ladies who works at the hostel, Nine, lied to me about certain trips to push me towards the one she likely makes the most money on. "Can I go on this trip?" "No, this trip is full." "Can you call them to find out?" "I already did, they full." "No, you didn't. Can you call them?" "OK". After I went on a several day excursion I came back to Green Tulip to honour the second night of my reservation. Somehow I was upgraded from a dorm to a private room for no additional cost. When I actually went to go to sleep, after midnight, I realized there wasn't actually a mattress but a box spring. There were no staff awake as reception is only 12 hours a day. In the morning they refused to refund me, give me a breakfast, or any other sort of compensation. There are plenty of clean and cheap hostels in Chiang Mai. Pick somewhere besides Green Tulip.

Liked: Immaculately clean. In old Chiang Mai -- perfect for a good night's sleep and a throw's away from where all the action is. Stella and Nine are awesome. EXCELLENT value.

Disliked: It was a bit far from the center of town, but nothing a bike or a decent walk can't solve.

Liked: Everything! One of the best hostels I've stayed in. I've travelled the world before and don't think I've ever been to a cleaner hostel. The staff are all fantastic here!

Liked: I love this place, I only planned on staying two nights and ended up nearly two weeks, it was great fun, and Nine and Stella are the best, they make you feel at home. The Green Tulip house is so clean and and relaxing, and if you are stuck on things to do they can suggest loads!! i also met some really good friends here, I have reccomened this place to everyone!!

Liked: The food they offer in their restaurant is outstanding, the chef is a very nice person. I arrived after closing hour and could still book a tour for the next morning.

Disliked: Located at a busy street the room was a bit noisy. Got used to that the second night though

Liked: This is a great place with very friendlyand helpful staff who don't push particular tours down your throat but have very good knowledge of all that's available to do in and around Chiang Mai. They also encourage guests to exchange information and made everything as stress free as it could be. The property was extremely clean and well maintained. The security was good because the staff were always about and got to know us quickly. I had no hesitation leaving valuables in our room even when away on a trek overnight.

Disliked: The shared area has dining style table and chairs which doesn't encourage lazing around and socialising. However, there are so many places to go out this isn't really a problem.

Liked: We had a wonderful time at Green Tulip. We got very good advice in booking a trekking tour. When we got out for trekking, it was no problem to leave the bags over there. When we had to take an early bus at the bus station, Nine arranged a taxi for us. Laundry was done etc. etc. It was definitely the cleanest place we have seen in Thailand. Prices (not only for room but also tours) were extremely good. I would recommend this to any one visiting Chiang Mai.
