Liked: Green Tulip is beautifully clean and maintained. The free internet was fast and fantastic and the location was not bad at all- far enough out to be quiet and peaceful, but not too far to easily walk to the action.

Disliked: The food is overpriced and not very good, and the loud pop music playing constantly was rather off-putting, especially as it was clearly audible in my room upstairs..

Liked: Quite simply, the best place i have stayed in the 3 months i have been travelling. Nine and Stella who run the place are great fun and offer tours cheaper than anyone else. Stella is crazy and always laughing and joking but a super cook also. Place was spotlessly clean and i am coming back here as there is so much to do from Chiang Mai and this place offers it all at good prices.

Disliked: This is also very simple. There was nothing i didn't like.

Liked: The staff are very friendly and so helpful; this is a great base for exploring Chiang Mai and being able to book day trips and tours directly with reception was a nice hassle free touch. The hostel itself is clean, comfy and social, and located perfectly in the heart of Chiang Mai.

Disliked: There were no lockers in the room; although the room does have a lock on the door I think it is always nice to have the option of a locker. The shower was also a tad on the cold side; I found myself choosing between powerful and cold or drizzly and warm.

Liked: Nine, the woman who works here, is fantastic, as are the cooks/cleaners. I met the owner woman for 2 minutes and hated her instantly. She's lucky to have good staff! Place is really clean (but doesn't have soap in bathrooms which always drives me crazy), and close to everything - Chiang Mai is a small place.

Disliked: The owner. No soap in bathrooms.

Liked: Great hostel, super clean, really comfy, organise all the main trips at a FANTASTIC discount, cheapest by miles, but all the quality and fun. We paid much less than others in our group. Rooms are secure with plenty of space.

Disliked: No security locker's in rooms, but there is a luggage room and safe at reception. Room's do lock, so really wasn't a problem for us.

Liked: Hi, I spend some days at the grren Tulip guesthouse. It was one of the best places i have been during travelling Thailand in 4 weeks. The crew is absolutley helpfull and they did know my name from the first day. They try to give you a familiar feeling in this cheep, clean and saftey place. Ask about activities round chaing Mai, and get a discount by booking at the hotel desk:-). I would choose it again for a nice stay in Chaing Mai. Stefan from Germany

Liked: it was a really welcoming house, with a super nice host and simple but clean and comfortable rooms. nice rooftop terrace as well. great value for money.

Disliked: it was a bit hard meeting anybody. but in chiang mai, everyone is always out on treks and stuff, so it's to be expected that people don't really hang out there much.

Liked: Well, I gave this hostel a good rating, because everything was fine if I look at it very objective, BUT I would really recommend to read "Josh Sayers" comment from a few days ago... the hostel is very good, not the most central, but everything else is fine. The only thing...funny...are the owners, I liked them, they´re pretty eccentric and indeed kinda pushy when it comes to tours (be aware that whole chiang mai is very focused on selling tours!), but since a tour was part of my plans to begin with I had no problem with them at all. Nevertheless I was able to watch their behaviour infront of people who didnt want to buy stuff from them... there is a difference... well having said that, it was still a good place for ME!

Disliked: Everythings fine for me.

Liked: The hostel is located within the old city but is on a quiet street and is in a convenient location. The hostelkeepers are friendly and enthusiastic towards travellers. They provide free and unlimited use of computers with hi-speed internet which is good. The bathrooms are as spacious and clean as a hotel. They have a rooftop garden which is a nice place to relax after a day of activities. The hostel recommends day trips to us at a discounted price and turn out to be of good value to money. Highly recommend.

Disliked: The dorm rooms facing Sanlam Road could be noisy with the traffic even late at night.

Liked: The staff (Stella & Nine) make this place. Very helpful & informative. Booked lots of our tours & travel through them, and prices matched the lowest we'd found without having to haggle!

Disliked: Location slightly away from main town, but not really an issue, just a short walk or cheap tuk tuk.

Liked: I really like this hostel especially Stella and nine. They were very helpful especially when I was off by one day in my booking. I would highly recommend the Green Tulip House.

Disliked: I wasn't interesting in signing up for tour packages so I could have done without being asked which tour I was interested in every morning.

Liked: - Reasonable rate - Free WIFI (though sign downstairs suggests otherwise; just ask) - Very clean and bright rooms, as other reviewers have mentioned - "Roof top" patio was a nice place to sit in the afternoon, and usually free of other people - Felt safe

Disliked: To temper what the last reviewer said, I think it's important that people don't ignore the bad reviews. Green Tulip is not for everyone, and I think that reflects itself in the reviews. Yes I know it's hard to separate the genuinely valid reviews from the ones written by people who are either displeased with everything or just got a bad day, but not everything is for everyone! - Environment felt "sterile" and relatively unwelcoming - Food is quite overpriced and nothing to write home about. I wouldn't recommend eating anything here. - Owners are friendly, but very odd. The owner is a weirdo, and while others find she is a kooky in a fun way, we really did not like her. We found we tried to avoid making eye contact with the staff on the way in and out! I don't know what everyone's name was, but there is an older woman who looks Thai-ish who does most of the serving. She is quite friendly and pleasurable. Stella on the other hand just doesn't seem right. Again, most people find her enjoyable, but we (as well as a few other reviewers I read) did not. - No shoes upstairs is fine. However, the shared bathrooms are also upstairs, and they intend us to use them barefoot. The bathrooms are cleaned throughout the day, but I still don't like the idea of standing barefoot in front of a toilet some several other guys have just used. Not cool. I brought my sandals upstairs and wore them while in the bathroom. - There is 1 shower and 1 toilet per each of the 2 bathrooms. That means in the morning and evening when people are showering, you don't get to use the washroom. Not the end of the world, but inconvenient. - Contrary to what the description says, this place is on a VERY busy street. It just isn't a tourist street, which means you'll have to walk a little ways for food.

Liked: Stella, Nine and Douglas' hospitality are unbeatable! They made efforts to remember each of the guests and greet them personally. (Anyone paranoid about privacy could get spooked, though)

Disliked: It's located a wee bit off-the-beaten track, in the SW corner of old Chiang Mai. Anyone wanting to be near the pubs and Western restos could be disappointed.

Liked: We were here in October last year, and it was so good we came back again! Stella and Nine are fantastic. There are a couple of bad reviews on here about Green Tulip, but ignore them completely. This is a clean, friendly place with the best pad thai! There's a nice chillout/smoking section on the roof which is an ace place to look at the stars on a quiet night. Stella and Nine can't do enough to help you. We now live in Chiang Mai, and will be popping round to Green Tulip whenever for can for a beer and a catch up.
