Liked: Spicy Thai is like home! Great atmosphere, lots of travelers to meet. Very communal. Beds are surprisingly soft for Thailand, the staff are brilliant, helpful and really involved.

Disliked: It's a little far out of the old city and the action. There are bars and restaurants around, however. It's a bit of a walk into town or a tuk tuk ride to see the more authentic Chiang Mai.

Liked: Kind of far from the city center,but you can walk if you have time or take a tuk tuk.great atmosphere.20 of us went to dinner at vegetarian Thai food stall in the alley near 7-11.great food at 30 baht a plate.the nearest restaurant was 100 a plate.chaing Mai has lots of great attractions,but nothing you can just walk to.

Disliked: Some people seemed to sleep on the couches or hammocks.this is probably great if you haven't booked ahead. If you are into partying stay in the city center.this is located in a small residential area that doesn't tolerate noise.

Liked: I love this hostel, easily one of the best. Super friendly staff, organizes awesome events, very very sociable & welcoming, and you can go upstairs and it's quiet again. I would recomend this hostel before any other. Booked 3 days, booked 3 more.

Liked: This is a fantastic hostel mainly because the staff really take steps to get everyone involved so it is easy to meet people. We were all taken bowling and Noom drove us to the local market to point out the good food stalls. Great to have that local knowledge! As I was here over Christmas we had a Christmas dinner cooked for us which was a nice touch. The hostel is really kitted out with PC's, free wi-fi, massive tv and surround sound system if you fancy watching a movie so facilities all round really good. Felt like a home away from home.

Disliked: Location is not right in the centre but relatively cheap to get around and there are actually plenty bars and food places close by that are a good shout.

Liked: the hostel is little away from the old city. It's hide inside the village and really quite and peaceful. It's most chillful atmosphere hostel till now while traveling in thailand. The owner, noom bring all of us to the best pubs in town in the Christmas eve night. We really enjoy it. I definitely recommend this hostel to everyone.

Disliked: Tao left no negative feedback.

Liked: It's like a big home, nice big house with a garden set in a lovely quiet neighborhood. Only 20mins walk to town but plenty of good things to do close by. Great lounge room with millions of movies to choose from if your feeling lazy, free brekkie, awesome people. Nice communal evening events/activities. Girls dorm was lovely with a wardrobe, dressing table, en suite etc. Possibly the best hostel I've stayed in during the 2 and a half years travelling. You will see for yourself :)

Disliked: You really had to keep the noise down at night because of the local residents but that's fine, just go out and party elsewhere, there's tonnes of options.

Liked: SpicyThai was amazing! The owner, Noom was so friendly, accommodating and just awesome. He made the hostel feel like a constant family gathering so it really was a great place to meet people. You should not miss out on the SpicyThai experience!

Disliked: Absolutely nothing.

Liked: Huge comfy sofas, wide DVD selection, book swap, computers, kitchen and fridge with trust list, help yourself breakfast, clean. So many other travellers staying here, easy to meet ppl when travelling by self. Really nice friendly staff will help you with anything, talk to you for ages about future plans, always the same ppl as well so you can get to know them in your stay. One night Noom took about 20 of us out to night market street stalls for dinner and then bowling - very good way to encourage ppl to make friends and he even said if anyone beat him they'd get a nights free accomodation!

Disliked: Stayed in dorm so could be a bit noisy when ppl were out and coming back in, but thats the nature of dorms - im sure private room upstairs would have been different. Slightly out of the main centre of Chiang Mai but a gentle 10/15 min walk in.

Liked: Absolutely everything, for me this hostel represents everything a hostel should be. The place felt like a home away from home, and caters for all including those who want to do activities, day trips or even just chill out. The rooms are surprisingly a decent size and due to the nature and atmosphere of the place it is very easy to make friends. The staff went above and beyond to ensure that the stay was a memorable one. The area the hostel is in is decent and I will certainly be staying here again. I have also made some friends for life through this hostel :)

Liked: EVERYTHING!!!! This hostel is one of the best i have stayed in, really homely and friendly. The staff are amazing and become more like friends than staff. The hostel is clean and well organised and really helpful for arranging excursions and the next stage in your trip.

Disliked: NOTHING!

Liked: Great atmosphere, fantastic little comfortable common room with huge TV and a huge amount of DVD and TV shows selection which help you get to meet people easily especially if you are traveling on your own. A couple of free computers so you can book where you are off to next on your travels easily. Pong took us out and was a top fella.

Disliked: A little bit out the centre of the town.

Liked: I can't say enough about this hostel defiantly a lot more atmosphere than most hostels. Very easy to make friends and find people to travel, socialise and party with. I really enjoyed talking with all of the staff and miss them in every other hostel. I also went to spicy pai and it was just as amazing. The one common room really makes the place like a home.

Disliked: I guess there was no where to make a private skype call or it wasn't so easy to have solo time. Maybe the rooftop could be an option

Liked: A bit late with the feedback but this has got to be the best hostel i have stayed at. It is brilliant for meeting people. The staff are so helpful and friendly and organise group dinners and bowling. They are also helpful if you want to book tours buses etc. The kitchen is great if you've had enough of eating out. They have hundeds of movies and tv programmes to choose from and free wifi which is really quick. Would recommend this place to everyone

Disliked: Tiny problem with ants but then most places do! Nothing else not to like!

Liked: The staff here are great, and have provided me with more than what I need and wanted. The hostel with the best atmosphere and the people I ve met were really down, and although Im alone traveller, I met people within a minute of arriving here. I am definitely coming back here ASAitisP, and wish all the others who visit chiang Mai to try it out! Thank you for a lovely time!!

Disliked: struggle to think of one, perhaps location but I liked it seen as it is safe and it is only a 15 min walk to the main city! I read b4 that the place was "unclean" but I thought that's BS since all the toilets etc looked hygienic!

Liked: Really sociable, the staff are so friendly and helpful, loads of activities planned in the evening. They organise great trips too - elephants trekking Tiger Kingdom, cooking classes etc. Rooms and bathrooms are clean and secure!

Liked: The friendliest and most helpful hostel I've ever stayed at. They really do everything they can to make your stay enjoyable. Great atmosphere, great ppl. Getting around is not a problem since the hostel has their own pick up truck to take you around to places and in this way, you get friendly with everyone else at hte hostel so quickly. Otherwise everything in chiangmai practically picks you up from the doorstep anyway.

Disliked: The place does need a bit of a scrub

Liked: - very open people there - managers organize voluntarily stuff almost every day - very nice entertainment area - free breakfast "eat as much as you want" - hammocks in the garden!!

Disliked: - a little bit dirty in washing rooms - much forgotten washing stuff from former guests

Liked: The other reviews are right -- this is an absolutely awesome place to meet people, and the atmosphere of the hostel is warm and welcoming. The beds were also comfortable and the rooms themselves were clean. While the location is a bit outside of the main town, it was actually great from my perspective. It's in an upscale small town about a 10 min tuk tuk drive away that is safe, with good restaurants and bars, and more local Thais than in the super-touristy center. If you want to get away from the traps that many other hostels in Thailand are in, great location!

Disliked: While the beds and rooms were clean, the common areas and bathrooms were a bit dirty.

Liked: SpicyThai is a brilliant backpackers. You can walk into the Old Town within 20 mins so the location is fine, unless you want to be in the middle of Chiang Mai. Noom was a super hero and took us out on both nights that I stayed. The hostel itself is clean with some of the best facilities Ive seen. This really is the best placed I've stayed in in 3 months of travelling for all reasons as well as meeting people. It is great so I wouldn't hesitate in recommending it.

Disliked: Lots of mosquitos so keep covered up and protected.
