Overview

Mpingo Farm Stay offers 8 cottages furnished in an intentionally simple, yet very comfortable African Style. The cottages are artistically decorated with locally sourced amenities and hand made log furniture. The Mpingo Restaurant serves delicious, gourmet food, with recipes inspired by traditional Swahili cooking and prepared using locally sourced ingredients. The patio is perfect for relaxing with a cold drink after a long day discovering this unique location, completely off the tourist track.

Mpingo Farm Stay is a friendly African-style Farm Stay situated only one hour drive from Dar Es salaam City in the scenic village of Vikawe. The village is located midway between Dar Es Salaam (38 km north of Dar Es Salaam) and Bagamoyo (32 km south of Bagamoyo).

Our location is completely off the tourist track, making the Farm Stay a unique experience for people who really want to see and live real Tanzanian life, while retaining western style comfort. All our rooms are ensuite and traditionally decorated using locally crafted wooden furniture. Each room has a private veranda with views over the Vikawe Hills.

During your stay at the Mpingo you can tour the surrounding areas with our knowledgeable guide, Peter, visit the local village, or walk down to the Mpigi River. You can also choose to simply do nothing and relax with a good book or play one of our board games.

Our restaurant serves delicious food, prepared according to traditional Swahili recipes, using only locally sourced ingredients. The chef is knowledgeable about special dietary requirements and, given notice, can easily cater to your specific requirements.

Accommodation Information

Accommodation at the Mpingo Farm Stay consist of eight spacious cottage, each with its own ensuite bathroom. Rooms either have king sized beds or twin beds, depending on your requirements. Every room is furnished using hand carved wooden furniture and all beds have mosquito nets.

Each room has its own veranda where you can sit and enjoy the view over the Vikawe hills.

Location Information

We are located between Dar es Salaam and Bagamoyo, completely off the tourist track. Vikawe village is just West of the Mpigi River, about 38km north of Dar es Salaam and 32km south of Bagamoyo.
