Liked: The receptionist Coxon was extremely friendly and helpful. Certainly made me feel at home.

Disliked: Beds in the dorm were rather stiff and creaky. The power sockets were place at one side of the room so it becomes inconvenient to charge our devices we want tobkeep them close to us. Shower floods badly.

Liked: Friendly peole and good location if you visit Hualien just to go to Taroko national park.

Disliked: It was not worth the money. Shared room without keys, dirty bathroom, aircondition in the room, but only staff can control it and it keeps beeping at night so you basicly have no sleep.

Liked: Very nice staff. Plenty of bathroom facilities, so you're never waiting.

Disliked: There was only one outlet in the room, and it was far from my bed, so if I wanted to plug in my laptop, I had to go to the lobby, which was full of mosquitos.

Liked: Great hostel atmosphere downstairs especially. Not that many hostel options in the city, so it was nice to come across this one. Friendly staff, good showers and some breakfast.

Disliked: Would probably not be much fun if it was running at full capacity.

Liked: It is very close to the train station where all the tourist buses leave for the different sites around the city.

Disliked: You had to rent a locker which is different from most hostels. The showers could use some renovations.

Liked: Very friendly and helpfull staff; good location in relation to transportation and ammenities; nice lounge area on main floor

Disliked: It would be nice to spread guests out more when the hostel is slow instead of packing everyone into one or two dorms (for the sake of efficientcy, I suppose)

Liked: Although it's a little out from the main part of town, the location near the train station and free tourist shuttle bus is ideal for exploring outside the city. The lounge area is nice and comfy; a good place for hanging out, meeting others or chatting to staff. There was a great laid back feel to the place. The staff gave lots of useful advice regarding transport, where to get good food and general stuff to do in Hualien and Taroko.

Disliked: Self-catering facilities seemed limited (we only saw hot water and microwave), but free tea and coffee was nice as well as a good breakfast sandwich. If what you're looking for is a no frills good old traditional hostel (dorm bed, shower cubicles, meeting fellow travellers), you could do much worse than this place.

Liked: The location was pretty good for us as we were just using it as transport hub to visit Taroko Gorge. Also, the owner was fairly helpful (when asking about anything other than getting the a/c turned on.)Unfortunately, the advertisement is a bit miesleading. It says it has wi-fi in the rooms but the wi-fi didn´t work where we were on the third floor and the owner wouldn´t move us down to the second because "the rooms were not open" ... whatever that means, they certainly weren´t booked up. Also, the a/c is controlled by the owner. We arrived at around 2 o`clock in the afternoon, it was sweltering and they wouldn´t put the a/c on, explaining that normally they only turn it on around 9:30pm because most of their guests were out during the day. We ended up going out because it was actually cooler outside than in the hostel. When we got back (around 7) they still wouldn´t turn it on, despite the fact that all four of the guests that were booked in were melting. After asking a fourth time we finally got it switched on around 8pm.Not really good value for money. Nothing wrong with it as such, it provides all the absolute neccessities but it´s not exactly clean (mouldy curtains, plaster falling off walls, nasty bathroom) and you don´t feel like you get much for what you pay for (for example, no room key is provided and if you want your stuff kept say you have to pay for a locker).

Liked: One of the best hostels I have stayed in! The owners are friendly, approachable and extremely helpful. They can help you book activities in the local area too. The rooms are clean and there are plenty of showers available. There is free tea and coffee and breakfast too!! There is no laundry, but the 24hr laundrette is about 2 min walk across the road. Very much recommended.
