Liked: The room we stayed in was a decent size and had it's own bathroom which was nice. It also has a pool which (although) freezing is a plus point.

Disliked: The hostel itself was based inside a larger hotel which meant the atmosphere was a bit formal and stuffy. You had to drink the ridiculously expensive beers/spirits available at the bar as there were 'No Picnic' signs all over the place. Even eating your own food there was frowned upon. No guest kitchen to cook, very limited/out of date washing/drying facilites. No lockers in the room either. Aside from anything else it didn't have any sort of hostel vibe really, it was basically just a hotel room with 4 bunk beds.

Liked: Part of a nice hotel with pool and views of the mountains from balconies.

Disliked: 12 person dorm with only 1 ensuite bathroom...no extras in the hall.

Liked: Its part of a hotel which means it has quite a few good facilities - a pool, bar, restaurant, etc. Alpin Raft is on the same property which makes it very convenient. The hotel lobby is quite nice and they dont mind you sitting there to use the internet without buying a drink (just dont bring your own food and drink). Each room seems to have a small balcony with amazing views of the mountains.

Disliked: The staff could be quite rude at times - the internet stopped working one night and when I asked them to reset it they acted like it was the biggest task ever. There are no lockers in the rooms and when I asked about a safety deposit box for my stuff while I went rafting they said there wasnt one and I would have to take it with me (Alpin Raft had lockers and they lock the building while we were out, so that's probably safer). The directions are quite bad. Its easier to get to from Interlaken West, but if you use their directions its past the small Coop to the end of the street, make another left and its the white building on your right (the Mattenhof Hotel, the sign for the Funny Farm Hostel has fallen down). The prices in the bar and restaurant are quite expensive, coz its a hotel, so you're better off going to Balmers down the road or X-port pizzeria just next door (to Balmers).

Liked: Great views of the mountains from here and a decent place to stay at a reasonable price (hard to find in Interlaken).However, it is a bugger to find; the directions weren't great: "Get off the train at Interlaken Ost (east).Across the street is a big supermarket, the Coop, and on the other side is a Raiffeisen bank and a furniture store (Von Allmann). Walk up this street..."- which street exactly? We weren't sure...Also, it is not actually called "Funny Farm Backpackers" anywhere other than the booking sites (like this one). So don't go looking for a place called that (like we did) - you won't find it. Instead it is called the Mattenhof Hotel. God knows why they need 2 names, one of which is only used for bookings...

Liked: I loved how Alpin Raft (a company that takes people out for fun activities such as canyoning) was nearby and one could easily book a day's adventure at the reception. Moreover, the free movies and the computers were excellent! Definitely one of my favorite places!!

Liked: Really nice location. Internet was really really expensive, found it cheaper down the street. The couple in our room were paying twice as much per night as we were and had booked months in advanced compared to our booking the day before, so be wary of that.Be warned interlaaken itself is really expensive. Not the hostels fault though. Would reccomend staying here

Liked: I would definitely recommend Balmers over this place. It is an old hotel (NOT refurbished) and it doesn't have the hostel atmosphere. I did not find there to be anything special about it at all and it was very far from the train station. I took a taxi there and it cost 12 franc, but they do give you passes for the buses that run through interlaken so i took one to the train station on the way back. they do not provide breakfast, wireless is expensive and even using the computers provided costs a lot. overall, not happy with it. i was traveling alone and they "upgraded" me to a single room but i would have preferred a dorm style because I would have been able to meet other people.

Liked: The owner was always around and always friendly. Great spacious rooms. Pool wasnt open but looked inviting. Right next to extreme sports center. No kitchen, breakfast, and really expensive bar, but a very cool spacious common room to hang out late. Good karma place!

Liked: Very well located, they arranged you all the activities for the day, really helpfull staff, very good bar which served reasonable priced food and drinks, free internet. clean rooms and toilets

Liked: The staff was very friendly and the room was spacious for 4 of us to stay together in 1 room with 4 beds the toilet and the shower was neat and spacious too the staff helped us with the info on interlaken tourism and adventure sports.
