We would like you to experience a homely and friendly atmosphere and hope you can feel at home away from home.
All our rooms have big beautiful windows and comfortable beds with reading lights. The rooms are facing a small street, square or the tranquil backyard.
In our popular guest kitchen you can prepare your own meals. Why not start your day with making breakfast in our kitchen and buy some lovely fresh bread from the bakery just around the corner.
Relax in our common room with maps, books and homemade tips about Stockholm. We have a relaxed mix of people staying here who like meeting other guests, from friends, couples and families to backpackers - but we are not a party hostel. We like to make people feel at home and usually you can find somebody cooking in the kitchen chatting to other guests.
Free guest computers and WIFI, strong in common areas but not in all rooms.
We have free luggage room for our early-arriving and late-leaving guests.
At Castanea we are environmental friendly and are active with saving energy, carbon offsetting, waste recycling among other things.

Castanea Old Town Hostel
111 31 Stockholm
Castanea is perfectly located in the charming atmosphere of the Old Town, right in the middle of Stockholm city center.
Our surroundings have stories to tell. To stroll through the streets is to travel through history. The Old Town is one of the best preserved medieval city center in the world.
From here it is close to everything, most of the city sights are within walking distance. In the Old Town you are in the middle of most tourist attractions, shops, cafees and restaurants. Around the corner you will find the Royal Palace, Stockholm Cathedral, Nobel museum. A few minute to catch one of the boats to the archipelago.
It is also close to Central Station, only one stop with the underground or a 15 minute walk. Also easy to reach other parts of Stockholm as cosy Sodermalm, Norrmalm and Kungsholmen.
Our personal recommendation is to stroll in the Old Town and experience the historic atmosphere. Another favorite is Fotografiska also walkable from Castanea, enjoy fantastic exhibitions as well as good food. It is also an excellent photo spot of Stockholm from there. If you are curious of Swedish food visit an indoor food market, perfect for this is Ostermalmshallen or Hotorgshallen.
If you are a little more adventurous try the very Swedish Ice-hole and cold bathing with sauna in the winter. In the summer take the boat far out in the archipelago for a whole day.
