Haley StewartKaixo was quaint, clean and bright. There is a full kichen for the travelers use. It is about 10 min walk from both beaches, located by many shops and pubs. John was awesome. We loved our stay. |

Adam Glen-BottThis is the strangest 'hostel' I have ever stayed at. Be aware that there is a 10euro/hr charge if you arrive after 11pm - this was not on the hostel description when I booked and when I inquired about this charge Jon, the owner, replied with a very abrupt message calling me 'paquete' at the end. This was the general feel of the whole place - we arrived and were not shown to our rooms, nor was there any information about the area given to us. At 'breakfast' Jon came in (without introducing himself) and thrust a receipt for the 90euros that he had charged my card without giving me any opportunity to pay in cash. He had such an air of hostility about him that I daren't confront him. My advice is to milk as much of the free stuff that this place has to offer because he will not hesitate to take advantage of you or make you feel unwelcome. After talking to another traveller by chance in Nice who had passed through San Sebastian, this was exactly the same treatment that they had receieved. The owner is a very unwelcoming man who has a great idea for a nice hostel but does not have the personality or freewillingness to pull it off. He claims he is a traveller himself but have you ever been charged 10euros per hour for arriving late? Do not stay at this hostel. |

Customer reviewthis hostel was pretty nice, small, but we stayed in one of the 7 dorm rooms and we met all the other people staying with us and it was nice! The owner even provides free food! but him and his wife are like the only people who work it and his english isn't great, but he can understand well, just sometimes he is hard to find because he runs the bar downstairs BATHROOMS: really clean but because someone had broken one the night before we got there there was only one that we could really use and it didnt have a mirror, but for the like 15 or so people that could live in that hostel at one time.....one bathroom is not great, but apparently he had some showers downstairs...but i didnt know about them has personal lockers and full service kitchen with everything you would need (even food like eggs and bacon in the morning) overall, i was really impressed, the owner was not so impressive as he was just a very straightforward all about business which comes across harsh but he was very helpful |

Customer reviewThis property was always clean and the rooms were very safe and secure. The use of secured lockers made myself and my friends feel safe to leave our property in the rooms without any worries! |

Customer reviewTo be honest, aside from the location, I didn't like the hostel. It was more like an apartment; we stayed from a Monday to a Friday and not once did anyone even do so much as empty the bins in the rooms! The room we got was a twin and we were charged €40 each which was pretty expensive considering it barely had enough room for the two beds, and had nowhere to hang your towel let alone your clothes. The owner greeted us on our arrival with a decidely unpleasant demeanour and accused us of arriving three hours late (I had emailed him three days previously to tell him I couldn't confirm my arrival time, but that it would be late afternoon - he himself had responded to my email!). He grunted that he could have spent the day on the beach instead of waiting around for us. It didn't get much better after that. There were builders in from 8 in the morning making the most awful racket with radial saws and hammers and when my friend asked Jon if the builders were going to be working every morning he responded in such a petulant and rude manner I was quite shocked. He asked us what we wanted him to do, go out and kill the workers to stop the noise? He then offered, in a sarcastic tone, to move us to another building out of the city. I said it was fine, we'd stay where we were. But when I tried to change the subject and ask for fresh towels (on our third day) he grabbed a bundle and practically flung them on my bed. This man's attitude is not one that bodes well with working with the public. I spoke to other guests during our four day stay and they two had been subject to encounters similar to mine; him lecturing backpackers on buying bottled water (it was well into the thirties when we stayed there!), to his generally arrogant manner of speaking down to you. In summary, I would not recommend staying in Kaixo hostel, although San Sebastian is absolutely stunning. What a pity this rude little man left such a sour taste after an otherwise pleasant visit to to a lovely, welcoming city. |

Beau GinbeyExcellent kitchen which doubles as a common area - great for a chat with other travelers. John (owner) is sensitive about people coming home drunk (understandable) but he's a nice guy and conscious of making an effort with his english to improve the information given to travelers. Tidy modern place and the best location - in old town between 2 beaches. |

Customer reviewNo access to internet if you don't bring a laptop. The host isn't as helpful as many described. Charged your credit card for the balance to pay without notice instead of taking cash on arrival as in most hostels. My room would be better if it has a window, a trash can or a mirror. |

Customer reviewThe owner is very nice and has tons of stuff there to help you out. The hostel is in a great location, right in the middle of the center of town. I didn't spend too much time in the hostel but it's set up more like a house than anything so depending on what you're looking for... It was good for me. |
