Liked: Mike and Trudy were excellent hosts, and made me feel really welcome. I even got a free beer on arrival! They provided me with lots of information about Marbella and the surrounding areas, which was all very helpful. The hostel is kept very clean, and the facilities are good. I particularly enjoyed the sunny roof terrace. The hostel is in a great location, right in the middle of Marbella's old town, and close to the beach and lots of bars and restaurants. It's also walking distance from the bus station, which makes it a great base if you want to explore the region and go on day trips to places like Ronda and Gibraltar. I was sorry to leave!

Liked: The location was fantastic - 10 mins walk downhill from the bus station and situated in the beautiful old town. Even though the accommodation is basic, it's very clean and comfortable. There is a pool table and large communal area on the ground floor. Even better, you can order draught beer (Mahou). The owners are very friendly and do a great job running the Hostal. I only spent a couple of nights there before moving to a self-catering apartment near the beach (which I'd pre-paid), but I'd happily have stayed at the Hostal for my entire time in Marbella. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Disliked: I suppose the only possible downside is that there are no cooking facilities (but note it's a hostal and not a hostel with dorm rooms etc), but there are heaps of many great and well-priced eateries close by.

Liked: I really enjoyed my stay here, my kind of hostel: laid back; get up when you want, come in when you want; right in the centre of the old town and surrounded by inexpensive tapa bars and restaurants. There's also a fantastic roof terrace to chill out with a cold beer.

Disliked: There was no kitchen to use, but this didn't matter because the place is surrounded by places to eat which won't break the bank.

Liked: that my window was not facing towards a road or some noisy area..loved that! The guy in the reception was really nice. the internet reached my room which was fantastic :)

Disliked: My roommate, a tiny little spider on my wall...but she didn`t move through the night so no damage done!

Liked: good value for money hostel in the historic center of Marbella; easy to meet other travelers; nice host; everything within walking distance (bus stations, supermarket, bars, shopping, cash machine, beach)

Liked: Grat location to the beach restaurants and bars. A warm welcome from Mike as my plane was delayed and he waited up after one. Better than expected ,room had everything you needed and shower ect close by.Always offered a hot or cold drink and made to feel at home. Lots of friendly people about but you had your privacy when you wanted it. I felt very safe and my belongings secure.My thanks to Mike and Trudi and I would definately stay there again.

Liked: I liked that it was good value for money offering basic hostal accomodation. I enjoyed using the roof terrace especialy for a cold beer. Being only 5 minutes from the beach was a plus point. And I noticed in the hostal lounge a signed photo from Michael Winner to the owner, "did the great man really stay there."

Disliked: I disliked having to leave.

Liked: The hostel is in a great location, just in the middle of the center, and close to the beach as well. The owner Mike is wonderfull. I arrived very late to Marbella, after closing hours, but he waited for me. Thank you again Mike! For sure I will go back to this place.

Liked: Awesome staff... very helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. The location was great. Short walk to the beach and taxi stands, surrounded by many excellent shops and restaurants.

Disliked: Not expecting communal showers/restrooms.

Liked: The location is close by the beach and the hostal has friendly owners. We had a really nice stay and it was in the nice part of the town. Don´t expect too much it´s a student back packers hostel but a nice one.

Disliked: There is no kitchen but then there was none advertised so fair enough.

Liked: Location, proximity to the beach. Get what you pay for and nothing to complain about.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike. Good value accommodation. Bathrooms not perfect but the showers run hot and everything is in order.

Liked: Stayed at this hostel for 10 nights and had a fantastic time! Mike and Trudy (the owners) are extremely helpful and personable. The location is fantastic....close to the beach and right in the old part of Marbella. The rooftop patio was an excellent spot to meet and mingle with interesting people from so many different countries.

Disliked: Nothing.

Liked: having stayed 10 nights, i enjoyed it, the roof terrace is a great place to meet people from all over the world. The location is also great being a couple of mins walk from marbella main street and about 5 mins walk from the beach...

Liked: Firstly, you couldn't of asked for better hospitality from the owners. We arrived at midnight and the owner Mike gave us a beer on the house- we just knew we where going to be fine staying here. Our orignal room had been taken another night, but we happily stayed in a smaller double next door- 205, was a little bit too small for the two of us and so moved the next day, with no problems what so ever. The place was spotless, yes, it could do with air con in 38c heat but really- you get what you pay for and this place is a bargain!!! Clean, friendly, safe. What more do you need?! Great time in Marbella and Hostel del Pilar, we thank Mike, his wife and the other staff there for their warm Scottish hospitality! Cheers guys
