Liked: If you want to meet people, or want to have people come visit you this is not the place. They gave us an extremely hard time and wouldn't let any visitors in our room for even a little while during the day. They also gave is a hard time when we had only paid 1/3 of the cost, when no one asked us to pay the rest. The location was great, but there are so many possible hostels in the sol area that I would suggest finding somewhere else.

Liked: They had vending machines, which was really nice. They were relatively clean but our room smelled of smoke. Overall it was a good experience though.

Liked: The hostal has an excellent location for exploring Madrid. The staff were friendly and helpful and the room was good value for money, due to the location. However my one complaint would be that the walls are very thin and whilst we were at the back of the hostal, so did not have street noise, you heard fellow guests constantly through out the night.

Liked: I liked the room that I stayed in. It was clean and comfortable. It was in a good location and I could easily walk to where I wanted to go and it was close to the metro station.

Liked: I stay here often because it has free wifi, airconditioning in the summer, and warm in the winter. Great staff.

Liked: It's a clean, supercentrally located and safe place where to stay while in Madrid... Not much fun at the hostel itself, but that's about the only minus the place has.

Liked: the location, and it's open 24/24 so you don't have to carry your keys with you when going out...it's clean, modest, but really just what you need for enjoying the city a couple of days

Liked: The location of the Hostel is perfect. It´s near almost everything that you want to see downtown Madrid. Shopping, museums, squares, bars, restaurants... if you like to walk just a little bit, everything is possible in just some minutes walking. I enjoyed my stay very much and recommend this hostel to those who are going to Madrid. The room is simple, but clean. The staff is also very nice.

Liked: it is in the center.Really at 20 yard from Sol.The shower is very very smal!Perfect for few days and for young people!Have fun,good bye!

Liked: Great location. If you are looking for good value, well located accommodation in Madrid this is the right place. Only problems is the thin walls between rooms.

Liked: Generally okay, although the rooms on the street side were noisy. It would have been better if breakfast (or at least coffee) was included, or there was a kitchen we could use.

Liked: Excellent location! Hostel is located in a street next to the Puerta del Sol. Just within walking distance from all the shops and major attractions.Don't take a room on the streetside though. The Madrilenos are people that like to spend their time outdoors and have lots of fun so it can quite noisy.

Liked: We had a fantastic time at the Hostal El Pilar. We had miscalculated the booking dates and arrived early. However, the Hostal staff were friendly and generous and even though it was a busy time (and we knew that other Hostals in the area were full) the Hostal El Pilar were able to provide us with exactly the accomodation we were hoping for. They were brillant
