Liked: Terrific location right next to Plaza del Sol. Friendly and helpful staff, but not a place to hang out. Rooms were good.

Disliked: Our first room had had smokers in it, which was disappointing, bu our second room (we stayed there twice) was fine.

Liked: This is one of the best located places you can find and all the shops. services and places to eat are very close.Carlos[The Owner] and his family are very friendly and helpful,the staff was nice to talk with.I would suggest this place to anyone.

Liked: very clean, great location, lots of quiet rooms, feels very safe that the staff checks your entrance and if there are no strange people entering. there is an internetpossibility and sheets, towls, are cleaned every day!

Liked: The staff are waaay nicer than the average arrogant Madrileños! The night receptionist was genuinely friendly. The day staff may look slightly grumpy, but it's just a mask :)They were open to change, too: since my friend and I couldn't sleep because of the street noise right under our window, they switched us to a noise free room, at no extra cost and without any hassle! The rooms were both very clean, the design was proper, fresh towels and made beds every day. The windows can be blinded completely, so after a long night, there's every opportunity to sleep in. Like in any hotel&hostel it's not permitted to have more people over during the night. Hostels can also object during the day, but at El Pilar it's no problem having a day visitor over, as long as you discuss it with the owner (small older bold man) or the staff. The only remark I can make is that the second room had a very annoying shower, switching from very cold to literally burning hot, while the first was very very nice, right pressure and all!Thank you El Pilar!

Liked: The location is the best !!! The bathroom is also very good. My bed was a little uncomfortable, and we could hear many noises from other rooms, which was annoying.

Liked: Good accomodation for the price in the heart of madrid. Clean, quiet, pleasant staff. Rooms small but appropriate for the price and location

Liked: It is clean and calm inside, the noise on the street is a lot, but for people having fun it is not a problem. The staff is polite and friendly.

Liked: If you want a cheap place to stay in the centre of Madrid this is the place for you but be realistic about what you are getting for your money. The rooms are a bit small and dark if not 'rustic' the walls are thin so there's some noise and there's no common area to meet other travellers. If you want accomodation with bigger, lighter rooms and more atmosphere you'll have to spend a lot more euros!

Liked: Fantasic location, a stones throw from Plaza De La Puerta Del Sol! Very affordable, clean, tidy & safe.

Liked: The location is great. On the downside, it was very noisy inside the hotel until 4 a.m. and my room totally smelt of smoke (however, I did not book a non-smoking room so that is not a negative point in my evaluation).

Liked: You get what you pay for, probably even more. I stayed there for 4 nights with my girlfriend in a double bed room. Clean facilities and lining and towels changed every day. Bed was comfy as well so can't really complain. Considering it is 25£ a night PP it is value for money.
