Liked: Location. Located conveniently near a metro station. The design of the place is not bad. All rooms face out to the common lounge and it is cooly decorated, but the sofas need some replacing.

Disliked: When we first arrived at the hostel, we were told that we couldn't check in because the relevant staff hadn't arrived and had to wait in the lobby for quite a long time despite being tired from traveling. Had to stand at the counter and waited a long time while one staff taught another how to use the booking system, and when she finally attended to us, the check in was a laboriously long process and it was very very frustrating. When we got to our room, it was also disappointing. It was small and bare, the pillow was too flat, and comforter not warm. No shelf or surface available to place belongings as well, had to put stuff on the floor. The toilets were also not the most appealing - toilets couldn't flush toilet paper properly and the shower had no ledge on which to place toiletries. Not sure why they placed shelves outside the cubicles, making you have to walk out in your towel to get your clothes. Plus the shower was operated by pressing a button, so you have to keep pressing it to get water. Additionally, breakfast was sad - consisting of a choice of donut, cereal or croissant and 1 orange juice and 1 hot chocolate/coffee/tea. No refils. Frankly one of the most disappointing places stayed at. And not that cheap either. Really not very recommended unless you have no choice.

Liked: Hostel is located close to metro station and also neat the city center. I liked the old patio decoration.

Disliked: 2 things: In the room was only one elektric socket, Wifi was available only in the common space and not in the rooms.

Disliked: the staff was horrible. Very unhelpful and unwilling to help with anything. If there was a different staff, I would recommend this hostel much more.

Liked: A lot of fun.. loved the pubcrawls.

Disliked: but one staff member was really rude.. the roof caved in in our room and she really didn't care.

Liked: This hostel is build in a old complex and because of that the atmosphere is cozy.

Disliked: The dorms are a bit small. and the bunk beds are almost next to eachother.

Liked: the commonroom was goodthe matrass was comfortable

Disliked: - it was allowed to smoke in the room where the computers are - the beds weren't stable so it makes a lot of noise when you turn around - the breakfast was very small - the room wasn't well ventilated - the room wasn't safe for fires, i had no idea how to get out in case of a fire and i didn't see smoke detectors or material to stop the fire

Liked: the bathrooms were big, but very far away from the bedrooms.

Disliked: No kitchen, no space in the rooms, bathrooms far away from the bedrooms, doors difficult to open.

Liked: The hostal was clean and the courtyard is beautiful. It is is a great location and we walked to all the sights including the Prado, Plaza Mayor, etc.

Disliked: The staff was incredibly unhelpful. I was shocked that these people actually work for a hostel, when their job is to assist travelers while the are away. Every time I asked anyone at the front desk for anything, they were annoyed and almost always responded with "I don´t know". I have never stayed at a hostel where the staff seemingly hated their jobs so much. I would recommend this hostel because of the hostel itself, but the people who work there really make me never want to come back. Everyone needs to take a ¨how to work with people¨class before they are allowed to come to work.

Liked: Not sure why this is Lonely Planets pick for budget accommodation in Madrid. Yes its a good location, clean, has a bar and the tiled terrace is beautiful, but the rooms and bathrooms and very average and it doesnt offer kitchen facilities or printing. The english speaking staff were also very unhelpful

Liked: The bar was a ood place to meet people, and prices were ery good.

Disliked: The hotel was flithy, new clean bedding was quite often not provided for new stayers and the toilets and showers were apalling.

Liked: This hostel is ideal fro young kids looking to have a fun time in the city. The location is abosultely perfect: a five minute walk (if that) from Plaza del Sol and lots of fun activities offered by teh staff--bar nights, walking tours. there´s even a bar downstairs that's a great way to meet some new friends for tapas crawls or bar hopping if you came alone (like I did).

Disliked: I stayed in a four person room with ONLY ONE OUTLET which was a bit of a hassle at times, but I´m starting to learn taht this is the case everywhere is Spain. Not really anything I can fault Cat´s for.
