Liked: The staff was great. the location is perfect if you plan on being around gran via at all during the night.

Disliked: It is a hostel. not a hotel. if you know that going into it, you shouldn´t have any problems. no lift for anyone with ambulatory problems.

Liked: The value for money was great. The hostel was right in the city center and you could walk everywhere easily. The room was very clean and comfortable. It was cleaned by the staff every day and also the towels were changed every day (that surprised me). The toilet was not in the room but still it was very clean. San Martin is a great place to stay when you want to be right in the middle of everything in a great place at a good price!

Disliked: There was nothing I disliked but I was wondering about the conditions in summer because I didn't see any air-condition. But maybe they have portable ones. I would make sure of that before you come in summer. :)

Liked: Very central, but still quiet. The hostal is quite old fashioned, but in a good way, and is comfortable. The staff were very friendly.

Liked: Actually, this is the second times staying here. Quite a nice hostel. Good location and has cheap single room. Tolilet is shared one. But very clean.

Disliked: None.

Liked: Nice place if you just need to crash. Very easy to find. We did our Madrid stint over a few days at a much nice hostel, then travelled up north for more adventure, but this place was no more no less than what we needed for our overnight stay till we left for the airport. They have an elevator too!! And the staff was super friendly and helpful.

Disliked: Shower was in our room which odd, but I was so exhausted from a 6-hr ride from Vasco, that we didn't much care.

Liked: Great Location and the room was very clean. Staff were very helpful even with their limited English

Disliked: Staff didnt speak much English and there wasnt an area to socialise with other guests so not much atmosphere.

Liked: I loved the location Hostal San Martin; it was to the main strip, museums, main sites, and shopping areas. The staff was also very helpful in suggesting places to see, restaurants to eat at, navigating the city, and providing transportation information.

Liked: Probably the best value I've seen for a hostel in central Madrid. The location is convenient (just off Gran Via). The rooms are spacious. The owner is friendly and very helpful (even recommended several other nearby accommodations for the following night since he was fully booked - this was the first time I stayed there, Sept. 17, 2011). I returned and would definitely return to this hostel again when staying in Madrid.

Liked: Location was great - just near Gran Via street and metro Callao.

Disliked: No lounge room or something. Place just to sleep and go to the city.

Liked: The hostel was located right in the center of Madrid and only a few steps away from the best sights and shopping options. Also the rooms were really clean and had everything you need in it, like a safe, TV, toilet, shower, etc... The staff was amazing and helped with everything. Opposite the hostel was a really good breakfast place!!!!

Disliked: We didnt find the hostel right away, as it doesnt really have big signs outside.

Liked: A stone's throw from the heart of the city, very very convenient & near a metro. Tourist info is just across the street. Places to eat just outside. Staff was friendly & helpful. Place was clean and well-maintained. And the lift is a bonus for anyone with heavy luggage!
