Liked: Excellent location (right on the shopping strip, 5 minutes walk from Sol), very friendly staff, clean and well-maintained. Highly recommended for an easily accessible place to stay in Madrid.

Disliked: The shower in the room was a bit hit and miss, but there were a couple of others to use down the hallway.

Liked: Very friendly staff. Perfect located in the city center. Cosy, spotless room. Nice for couples; not die meeting people.

Disliked: Shower very tiny.

Liked: Everything was OK in the hostel. Not the most modern one, but clean and hospitable. At the reception we where welcomed by a girl who spoked very good English. We had a TV and fridge in the room so we could keep some food for breakfast. It was quiet so if you want to sleep you can do it. They clean the room and change the towels every day. We had a shower and a sink in our room. The toilet was a shared one, but it was OK. The hostel is minutes walking from the center. We rarely used the metro. It was a very nice experience and I would definitely recommended it.

Disliked: We didn't had a kitchen for breakfast, but it wasn't that necessary.

Liked: The location is awesome! Right in the heart of downtown, it's hard to beat the location for this price. Also, having a fridge in the room is always good, since buying groceries can help save money on meals while you're in town.

Disliked: The "double" bed was more like a full and hard to sleep two people. There was a tv in the room, but it got no channels. We had a stove, but zero cooking utensils: no silverware, no pots or pans, etc... Since most people don't travel with those things, it'd be good to provide them.

Liked: Great place to stay if your travelling with somebody. It is not a place to meet other travelers, but if thats not what you're looking for it is a perfect place to stay. The rooms are nice, the bathrooms are clean, the location is excellent and the staff is very friendly.

Disliked: Nothing

Liked: I spent one night, it is very close to the metro station, clean, quiet, and the most important thing for me was the fact that the staff can spaek English, not fluent but enough to comunicate. I had my laptop with me and the internet was working in the room and outside and it is quiet fast.

Disliked: I was in a single room and the toilet and the shower was outside the room but I am not sure that this is the case for the double rooms.

Liked: It is a very nice place, very comfortable and clean. Just need a small kitchen or a microwave. Or give hot drinks in the morning.

Liked: It's absolutely central, it's clean, there's heating and the guy at reception is extremely helpful. He himself speaks a bit of English (enough to communicate) and apparantly his wife is fluent, but I didn't get to meet her.

Disliked: I can't think of anything that bothered me.

Liked: It's perfectly located! It's within walking distance of all major sites and right across the street from a metro station. Also, the staff is very helpful but if you know a few words in Spanish, it may help in the long run. Either way, the staff is very helpful at all hours! We even reminded them the night before that we would have to leave very early the next morning (5am) to make the bus to the airport and the staff member at the hostel was awake to see us off.

Disliked: There was nothing to dislike but I would recommend that those wanting to meet people stay in another hostel. Hostel San Martin is great but much more suited for couples or those traveling in pairs.

Liked: There was a mini-kitchen in our room, which was very convenient. Rooms were all small--1 to 3 beds. More of a hotel than a hostel. The staff were really helpful and friendly, even though we didn't speak much Spanish.

Disliked: This is a good place to stay for older and/or calmer travellers; if you are looking for a party atmosphere, you won't find it here. Good for couples who want private rooms without paying high prices, bad for travellers looking to be social.

Liked: Good location. Safe for alone female travelers. I communicate with the staff beforehand to notify them of my needs for a quiet room as well as the directions to the hostal (cuz I read from online that they are difficult to find) and they responded very well. Staff is really friendly. On the last day, my bus doesn't leave till after noon and they kepts my luggage in the reception desk for me. They also let me borrow umbrella as it was raining. A bit description of my single room: Room has very basic stuff (bed, TV, a sink, bathroom, fridge, towels, cups, hand soap). Toilet is outside thou. It was cold in Madrid when I visited but the room temp is really warm that I always felt comfortable when I returned to the room and just wanted to sleep there all day long.

Disliked: I am just mentioning some aspects that could be improved but even without the improments the hostal is a really good deal. Since I am a student, it would be great if the prices were a bit lower. But for such location and services, I can't complain it's bad. The floor is old and makes noise when people walk on it BUT it's only along the main hallway so it didn't bother me much. There's a safety box in the room but you have to pay 1 euro each time you want to use it. If you have any request or need any info, should always email the hostel cuz they respond very quickly. The place is kinda difficult to find but once I got the instructions (on the hostelbookers info and also from my email with the hostel), it is super easy to find.

Liked: You get an own key for the house, so you can come "home" whenever you want. Very good value for money, and friendly people. Only 100 metres from the next Metro station. Overall a very nice place to stay!

Disliked: The building is quite old, so whenever someone walks down the aisle, the wood is squeaking, and the wind makes the windows rattle.
