Liked: Very nice staff, pretty quiet and safe. Lockers for bags and full kitchen.

Disliked: The computer is located right by several of the rooms so people could be kept up at night if people hang out by the front desk, computer at night.

Liked: Staff were friendly and helpful at the Puerta del Sol hostel.

Disliked: I made a reservation with Barbieri International Hostel in the Chueca neighborhood, and upon arrival, we were told that the room we had booked was reserved in their other hostel closer to Puerta del Sol. While the staff were friendly and helpful at this location, we specifically wanted to stay in the other neighborhood.

Liked: Location is excellent in an exciting part of town and not too far from the main sites and really near the metro station. The accomodation is perfectly adequate for the traveller who wants a central base.

Disliked: Our room was located on the front of the property and on Friday and Saturday night the street is very lively and loud! It is fine if you are likely to be out at that time but if you like to sleep early then it may be a problem. The entrance is not too obvious to find but if you look hard you will see it!

Liked: It was close to the metro and you can walk from the hostel to the train station. I liked that it had a kitchen and provided linen.

Disliked: I disliked that the tours and group activities offered were organized at a different branch of the hostel. On the flyers it says "meet in the lobby" but they tell you to go all the way to the other barbereli hostel. Also the bathroom was very poorly constructed. The space between the toilet and the sink was not large enough and there was no privacy when taking a shower. I also did not like that you had to pay for the use of the lockers.

Liked: It was in a great spOt right near the train station. Full of little clubs and bars and restaurants. Was in chueca which is the new happening gay district of Madrid. So felt very safe. They also had another property two stations away right in the center of town with a large balcony for chilling out on. All the staff were great and very helpfull

Disliked: A little hard to spot. But directions from station were spot on. Only the road that you step on to from the station is the one you are looking for. We walked all the way down it checking the crossroads untill we got to the end and realized we had been in the street the whole time.

Liked: The hostel was in an absolutely amazing location, with the main areas of Madrid, such as Puerto del Sol, all in walking distance. If you didn't want to walk, there was a metro station less than a 5 minute walk away. There was also a pretty amazing food market less than a 2 minute walk away. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, the facilities always kept clean. We also took part in a free walking tour, which the hostel was part of. Harriet, our guide, was an absolute charm! Definitely recommend people doing it.

Disliked: My only complaints about the hostel are entirely small and could probably be easily rectified - There were no sockets inside the room I was staying in, though they were more than accommodating by allowing me to charge whatever was needed behind the reception. The room I stayed in had no ladders up to the top bunk, which made it somewhat awkward to get up to.

Liked: great location in the gay area of madrid, walking distance to everything. staff were really helpful and free breakfast!

Disliked: although there was no curfew or lock out, the kitchen and common room were closed between 12pm and 7am and you had to be really quiet during that time. some of us got home and 6am one night and got in trouble for being too noisy in the bathroom getting ready for bed. breakfast is only toast, but its free so cant complain.

Liked: Super Friendly english-speaking staff (incl. Felix, the reallllllly cute night-staffer !! :) Excellent location ... Right at Chueca metro. Everything is walkable from here .. no need to buy a metro pass! Nice place to meet other friendly hostellers No night-curfew ... Very safe location ... I kept walking in and out all night long, and had no problems at all

Disliked: Breakfast is literally only toast + tea/coffee/oj ... but there are tons of places nearby that serve excellent (and cheap) food ... like El Tigre (EUR 3 for 5xtapas and a beer), Monte Nevado, the San Anton mall and Mal Amados (which is open only 21:00+) Small and cramped toilets, without locks on the doors! Funny !! :)

Liked: Location is good. It's not right in the center but it's not a long walk. Bathrooms got cleaned everyday but were a bit crowded sometimes. Lockers in the room were nice and the price seemed good

Disliked: The bunk beds are ridiculously squeaky. It was kind of a dull place, the commom space is small and mostely used for movie watching. It's best to be out when you're in Madrid anyways though
